Broadcasting Booth Beckons as Legend's Playing Days Appear Officially Over
Philip Rivers remains a free agent as the 2026 season approaches, with all signs pointing toward the broadcasting booth rather than an NFL return. At 44 years old, the veteran signal-caller is drawing significant buzz as a top TV broadcasting free agent. Aside from a brief three-game cameo with the Colts in 2025 where he threw for 544 yards and four touchdowns, Rivers has been detached from active duty.
Our data shows that fantasy managers are largely ignoring Rivers in drafts, with his rostered rate hovering near 12% and his start rate at just 8%. Without a team or any active contract talks, he lacks any draft capital or projected value in standard or PPR leagues. He is not a recommended target in any typical redraft formats.
Unless a team faces an unprecedented quarterback emergency late in the year, Rivers will transition to television. Fantasy managers should leave him off their cheat sheets entirely. He is a retired legend whose focus has shifted from the gridiron to the media microphone.
