Tomlinson could be a perfect fit for the Chargers as a third-down back and mentor to Ryan Mathews if both sides could find a way to swallow some pride, the San Diego North County Times reports.
Spin: It's no secret that the Chargers are looking for a veteran third-down back who can also serve as some insurance for the oft-injured Ryan Mathews. Tomlinson has said he would only play in a meaningful role for a Super Bowl contender, so this actually could be a nice fit. Unfortunately, both Tomlinson and general manager A.J. Smith had some pretty harsh words for each other when they parted ways after the 2009 season. Still, Tomlinson averaged a respectable 3.7 yards per carry and caught 42 passes for two touchdowns last season, and he remains one of the most beloved athletes in Chargers history. It might be a long shot, but it at least makes some sense.
