Ted Lilly struck out 11 in six innings to win his third consecutive start, and Alfonso Soriano and Geovany Soto hit home runs to lead the Chicago Cubs past the San Diego Padres 8-5 on Wednesday night. Backed by three RBI apiece from Soriano and Soto, Lilly (4-4) allowed six hits and four runs in six innings. He walked one. Lilly had a 4-0 lead before San Diego scored three times in the fifth. The big blow was a two-RBI single by Tadahito Iguchi. Scott Hairston would score on a wild pitch. But Chicago extended its lead to 6-3 on a two-run homer by Soto in the bottom half of the fifth, and Lilly cruised to the win. [...]
