Hairston, who will make $1.25 million in 2009, hit .248 with 17 home runs and 31 RBIs last season in mostly a reserve capacity. He again figures to fill a reserve outfield role for the Padres, who likely will use Chase Headley in left field, Jody Gerut in center field and Brian Giles in right field.
