Analysis: It's not often you'll see one of the preeminent power bats in the game slap three singles. Yet owners will probably accept anything that increases the batting average of a player who entered Saturday's game with a .250 mark. His contact rate is slightly down this year, 65.5 percent entering Saturday vs. a 66.5 rate last year, and it's low enough that owners shouldn't expect Howard's average to deviate much from the .251 figure he posted in '08.
