He was the original choice for the job when Jacoby Ellsbury injured his shoulder, but Aviles eventually saw his on-base percentage dip to .287, as manager Bobby Valentine experimented with Ryan Sweeney against right-handers. Sweeney didn't perform well there, so the manager has gone back to Aviles full time.
