Micah Owings struck out six over 6 2/3 against St. Louis on Saturday, and allowed just two earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks en route to his sixth win.
Analysis: It doesn't show up in the fantasy standings, but Owings' bat continues to be a big boon to his pitching fortunes -- he launched his third homer of the season in the second inning, giving himself a lead he never gave back. Offense aside, though, this was an excellent outing for Owings. His 1.53 WHIP is an indication of his iffy fantasy utility, as he's allowed a ton of baserunners thanks to both his hittability -- 94 hits allowed in 90 innings -- and an unimposing K/BB ratio of 56/44. He followed up a solid June in which he posted a 3.71 ERA and 2-2 record with some nice work here, though, and is worth a look in NL-only leagues if the match-up is right. He faces the Phillies in Philadelphia -- which does not initially appear to be 'the right match-up' -- on July 9.
