Cards, Holliday open talks
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Cardinals have opened contract talks with outfielder Matt Holliday. The team reportedly opened discussions with a six-year, $98 million deal.
Our View: These talks are just preliminary, but that doesn't appear to be nearly enough to lock Holliday up. Scott Boras has said he will use Mark Teixeira's eight-year, $180 million as a benchmark, so the Cards better get that offer increased if they want to keep the slugger.
