Leaving San Diego could very well revitalize Greene, who hit just .213 with 10 homers and 35 RBIs in 2008. It not only frees him from the constraints of pitcher-friendly PETCO Park, but also surrounds him with a stronger supporting cast. Instead of batting behind Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Kouzmanoff and Chase Headley, he'll protect an imposing group of sluggers that includes Albert Pujols, Ryan Ludwick, Troy Glaus and Rick Ankiel. Moreover, free agency awaits him at the end of the '09 season, providing extra incentive for a comeback campaign. He'll drag down your average, but the possibility of 20-30 homers and 80-plus RBIs makes him an appealing late-round flier. The arrival of Greene all but ends the Cards' relationship with free-agent shortstop Cesar Izturis. The 25-year-old Worrell isn't a top prospect, but he's racked up 84 saves since St. Louis selected him in the 12th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. The imminent departure of free-agent closer Trevor Hoffman could open the door for Worrell right away in San Diego's bullpen.
