Beckett loses thanks to one bad inning

Red Sox SP Josh Beckett lasted just 4 2/3 innings on Sunday night, allowing seven runs off 11 hits in a 7-2 loss to the Yankees. It was his worst start of four since coming off the disabled list on July 23. The right-hander gave up back-to-back RBI singles in the second before settling down a bit. But it all came unraveled in the fifth. In that inning, Beckett gave up a leadoff home run to Mark Teixeira and four more runs before being pulled for Manny Delcarmen with one on and two out. 'I just thought I threw too many balls over the fat part of the plate,' he said. 'The ball was finding the barrels.' Beckett struck out six and walked two while picking up his first loss since May 7.
