Twins trying to lock-up Mauer
The Minnesota Twins are rumored to be trying to lock-up 2009 American League MVP, and three-time AL batting champ, Joe Mauer to a long-term contract extension by Christmas, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Our View: It is going to take a gargantuan amount of money - the kind of money the Twins don't usually spend - to keep their native son, but both sides appear to want to get a deal done, and not retaining him long term in the Twin Cities would be a public relations disaster in a season in which the Twins will be opening a new stadium. It might not get done by Christmas, but it will get done.
