In Kubel's Major League career, he has just 27 career plate appearances batting third. He's has hit .333 (8-for-24) when in that slot, although the majority of his at-bats have come in the fifth, sixth or seventh spots in the order. Along with looking at Kubel for that role, manager Ron Gardenhire said that he is also considering using Michael Cuddyer or Joe Crede, both right-handed hitters, in the third spot.
