Liriano pulled after 45 pitches
News: The Twins couldn't overcome Francisco Liriano's short-lived return to the rotation nor solve Zack Greinke when it mattered, going 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position during Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Royals. With the Twins trying to catch the Tigers in the Central, manager Ron Gardenhire didn't have a lot of patience for the left-hander in his first start since Aug. 17. Try 45 pitches worth. Liriano made it through the first inning, stranding Willie Bloomquist at third. In the second, he gave up a leadoff double to Alberto Callaspo and walked Miguel Olivo. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice before Yuniesky Betancourt hit a 1-2 pitch out to left for his sixth homer.
