Five Yanks file for free agency
Yankee outfielders Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Eric Hinske, and Xavier Nady all filed for free agency on Monday, according to MLB.com. Catcher Jose Molina also filed for free agency at the same time.
Our View: No surprises here, but it will be interesting to see what the Yankees do with these guys. There has been interest in bringing Damon back, but Matsui made a case for himself by winning the World Series MVP. It looks like Nady will be gone, and Hinske could possibly be back in a reserve role. All of these players should have no problems finding a taker for their services, whether it be in a starting capacity or in a reserve role.
