Colorado minor league starter Drew Pomeranz is not close to rejoining the major league rotation, reports the Denver Post on Sunday. Despite Pomeranz throwing a second consecutive scoreless outing at Triple-A Colorado Springs, manager Jim Tracy said he's not coming back anytime soon. "I'm not surprised he's pitching good in Triple-A throwing scoreless innings and giving up just a couple of hits," Tracy said. "But we're trying to make him a little bit better than good. We just don't want him here at the big-league level trying to survive or just making a little contribution. We view this guy as someone that can be a dominant force at the front end of the rotation."
Analysis: It sounds like Tracy and the Rockies believe that Pomeranz has a bright future and they don't want to mortgage that on short-term results. Pomeranz made five starts with the Rockies and posted a 4.70 ERA so he clearly needed some more seasoning. He is an intriguing long-term Fantasy option, but nothing more at this time.
