Matsuzaka (elbow) has been placed on the 60-day DL, retroactive to the beginning of the season, the Boston Globe reports.
Spin: The Red Sox needed a roster spot due to a series of moves Tuesday, with Matsuzaka's potential return date still unclear.
Boston starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery. Matsuzaka was recently shut down from his minor-league rehab assignment after developing pain in his neck that restricted his movement when he pitched. He reportedly had a cortisone injection on Sunday. Matsuzaka's move cleared an additional spot on the 40-man roster.
Analysis: Matsuzaka appeared close to being activated from the disabled list, but that has been put on hold. Matsuzaka, who is still less than 12 months removed from Tommy John surgery, has struggled in his recent rehab starts and yielded five runs in his last appearance on Thursday. The right-hander will need to begin a new 30-day rehab assignment once his neck pain subsides and is only worth stashing in AL-only Fantasy formats.
Red Sox transferred RHP Daisuke Matsuzka from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Impacts: Dice-K's rehab from elbow surgery has stalled due to neck soreness. It's not clear when he might be ready.
