The Dodgers wanted a veteran upgrade over rookies Blake DeWitt
The Dodgers wanted a veteran upgrade over rookies Blake DeWitt and Andy LaRoche and they got one. Blake should help bolster a Dodgers lineup with postseason hopes, as he is currently hitting .289 with 11 homers and 58 RBIs. The Tribe did pretty well for themselves here, as Meloan was long regarded as a top relief arm in the Jonathan Broxton mold before converting to a starter this season and Santana, hitting .323 with 14 homers and 96 RBIs for Class A Ingland, has emerged as an intriguing catching prospect at the age of 22. DeWitt and LaRoche will now come off the bench for the Dodgers while Andy Marte (.186-2-4) will see starter's at-bats the rest of the way for the Indians.
