WEEI.com's Alex Speier reports the Boston Red Sox attempted to acquire OF Carlos Beltran from the Kansas City Royals in 2004 for 1B Kevin Youkilis and C Kelly Shoppach. The Royals traded Beltran to the Houston Astros instead.
