Ethier was hit by a John Lackey pitch and split the nail on the toe. He wound up scoring in that fifth inning on James Loney's single. Ethier remaining in the game and lined out to left field in the seventh inning, but was replaced in right field by rookie Jamie Hoffmann in the top of the eighth. Ethier, who has struggled in recent weeks, doubled in his first at-bat and scored a run, then singled in his second at-bat.
