For the third time in the past four games, Boston first baseman Adrian Gonzalez started in the outfield Tuesday against Baltimore. Gonzalez, who patrolled right field for two games during an interleague series at Philadelphia, was shifted from first base as part of the team's plan to keep Will Middlebrooks in the lineup. Middlebrooks remained at third base while Kevin Youkillis started at first after being activated from the disabled list.
Analysis: It seems Gonzalez's placement in the outfield was not just a cameo appearance in a National League park. The 30-year-old, who is considered one of the top first baseman in the majors, is expected to see additional playing time in right field as the Red Sox also scramble to fill the lineup after a rash of injuries in the outfield. The move shouldn't hinder Gonzalez's offensive production as he is viewed as a must-start Fantasy option.
