Skoula scores 2 goals in Pens' win over Thrashers (AP)

Source sports.yahoo.com. 20 hrs 40 mins ago. | 0 comments.

Defenseman Martin Skoula wasn't thinking hat trick. In fact, he had never scored two goals in a game before Saturday night. Skoula scored his goals -- one in each of the first two periods -- and the Pittsburgh Penguins held off the Atlanta Thrashers in a 3-2 victory. Atlanta scored both goals in the third period, the last by Maxim Afinogenov with 18 seconds left.

Slowly but surely the Penguins injured birds are returning to the waddle. First Evgeni Malkin, then Max Talbot and Sergei Gonchar...and finally tonight, Brooks Orpik. Orpik, who was cleared for contact earlier in the week, has been practicing with the team and is ready for action. There was a slight scare that his comeback was derailed yesterday when he left practice early, but it turned out to...

Jesse Connolly: Observations of Bruins' 4-3 Shootout Win Over Thrashers

Source www.hockeybuzz.com. 2 days 4 hrs 40 mins ago. | 0 comments.

Things starting entering doom and gloom territory with 0:42 left in regulation as, for the second time on the night, the Bruins surrendered the lead when Maxim Afinogenov buried one behind Tuukka Rask to help pull the Thrashers even at three apiece. Mad Max's tying tally marked the second time the B's had allowed the tying goal in the final minute in their last three contests. Unlike that last occ...

Phillips leads Senators past Penguins (AP)

Chris Phillips waited a long time to reveal his offensive skills. Phillips scored twice in his 800th regular-season game, and Pascal Leclaire made 25 saves, leading the Ottawa Senators to a 6-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. Phillips, who entered with one goal in 18 games, scored goals 2:03 apart in the third to put Ottawa up 5-1 and chase Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre...

Brian Metzer: Cavalry On the Way! As Expected Gonchar and Talbot Back in the Saddle!

Source www.hockeybuzz.com. 3 days 4 hrs 40 mins ago. | 0 comments.

Cue the cavalry music! I think that it is pretty appropriate when you consider how depleted the Penguins line-up has gotten... but that starts to change tonight in Ottawa. Max Talbot and Sergei Gonchar will officially make their triumphant returns to the Penguins line-up. Unfortunately, as has been the case any time this team gets a little bit of good injury news, they might be without the ser...

The injury-thinned Pittsburgh Penguins are down another player. Defenseman Jay McKee has an infected finger that will keep him out two to four weeks. He was hurt late in Pittsburgh's 5-2 win over Anaheim on Monday, and is the fifth of the team's top six defensemen to be sidelined since late October.

Brian Metzer: McKee Out 2-4 Weeks With Infected Finger; Sarge, Talbot to Return Tomorrow

Source www.hockeybuzz.com. 4 days 4 hrs 40 mins ago. | 0 comments.

There was a movie out recently called "The Box." I haven't seen it, but the commercial shows a couple who is given the opportunity to procure $1,000,000 dollars by doing nothing more than pressing a red button that sits in a box. Sounds like a great idea... however, as with anything in life, there is a catch. In this situation, pressing the button and earning your $1,000,000 kills someone...so...

Guerin's goal, fight help Pens past Ducks 5-2 (AP)

Source sports.yahoo.com. 5 days 20 hrs 40 mins ago. | 0 comments.

Bill Guerin still has some goals left in him at age 39. What's surprising is he has a few left jabs and right hooks, too. Guerin ended Pittsburgh's eight-game streak without a power-play goal by scoring in the first period, Jordan Staal scored short-handed and the Penguins wrapped up Anaheim's winless four-game road trip by beating the Ducks 5-2 on Monday night.

Third Period: What a way to start the third period... Ryan Getzlaf took a couple of extra shots at Bill Guerin in the Ducks zone after he fell down. Guerin answered by catching up to him as they skated up ice and laying a check on him. Getzlaf, who has seemed pretty frustrated tonight, didn't seem to appreciate it and started slashing Guerins stick. The duo eventually exploded into a cloud of g...

As expected, Alex Goligoski will be out for 2 to 3 weeks with what is being called a lower body injury. If this had been lingering, he seemed to aggravate it on Saturday night when he fell awkwardly and struggled back to the bench moments before the Bill Guerin tying goal. "He's getting an MRI today; He's got a lower-body injury," head coach Dan Bylsma said. "We are going to estimate 2 to 3 we...

Brian Metzer: Penguins Recall Pittsburgh Kid, D-Man Nate Guenin

Source www.hockeybuzz.com. 6 days 4 hrs 40 mins ago. | 0 comments.

The Penguins are supposed to update the world on the status of Alex Goligoski this morning, but I think that the writing might have just appeared on the wall. The team has recalled defenseman and Pittsburgh's own, Nate Guenin from their Wilkes Barre-Scranton AHL affiliate. I am sure it is a safety net move, but the possibility does exist that they could have three AHL regulars on their blue li...

Jesse Connolly: Now THAT Is How You Blow Two Points!

Source www.hockeybuzz.com. 7 days 4 hrs 40 mins ago. | 0 comments.

With 1:30 left in the third period, Brent Johnson peered out from the bench, his cage vacated for the extra attacker. The Penguins, at that point, had let four leads slip away and found themselves trailing the Bruins 5-4 after Marco Sturm got a piece of a Zdeno Chara bomb that put Boston up a minute prior. Bound for their fifth consecutive loss, the Penguins watched as the Bruins tried their h...
