The Phoenix Coyotes found a quick and effective way to quiet a hostile crowd Wednesday night. Radim Vrbata had a goal and an assist, and Ilya Bryzgalov made 24 saves in the Coyotes' 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild. But it was Scotty Upshall who ruined the home fans' fun. The Wild's Antti Miettinen tied it at 2 with 4:58 to play, but Phoenix countered 19 seconds later, with Upshall...
In an effort to try and figure out why the Wild are playing sub-par by most every fan’s standards, I turned to the stats sheet. Does it all boil down to goals for and goals against and a comparison of that stat? Perhaps.
The Wild so far this season have scored 49 goals (tied for 7th least goals for) and have 63 goals against (tied for 5th most), resulting in 7 wins, 11 losses and 2 overtime...
The Minnesota Wild have recalled right wing Danny Irmen from their farm team. Irmen was playing for Houston in the AHL. The 25-year-old has six goals, including two game-winners, and four assists in 17 games for the Aeros this season. The native of Fargo, N.D., and former University of Minnesota star was a third-round draft pick by the Wild in 2003.
TORONTO (Nov. 11) – On the whole, it is indisputable that the Minnesota Wild deserved to beat the Maple Leafs Tuesday night at the Air Canada Centre. The 5-2 score did justice to the game, which Minnesota controlled for all but a few minutes of the first period. That should not be acceptable to the Leafs or their followers, given that the Wild came into the match with an appalling 1-8-0 record o...
The Hall of Fame festivities were held last night in Toronto with Brett Hull, Luc Robitaille, Steve Yzerman and Brian Leetch being inducted. That occasion spurred the sports talk shows in Toronto to ponder the nominees for next year's class and raised the question of whether former Leaf and fan favorite Doug Gilmour would make the list. Unlike the Baseball Hall Of Fame, where reaching certain cur...
The present and past combined for the Minnesota Wild's first complete game of the season. Cal Clutterbuck and Mikko Koivu scored first-period goals, the Wild played strong defense, and held on to beat the Dallas Stars 3-2 on Saturday night. Marek Zidlicky also scored for the Wild, who have won three of four.
The two worst teams in the NHL will square off on Friday night in Carolina when the Hurricanes host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Vancouver Canucks are so banged up, they will take offence from anybody these days.
The Vancouver Canucks are so banged up, they will take offense from anybody these days. That's just what they got against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night. Tough guy Darcy Hordichuk and newly signed Matt Pettinger each scored their first goals of the season, forming an unlikely pair to lead the short-handed Canucks to a 5-2 victory.
The Canucks visit Minnesota for the first time this year in Game 2 between these two rivals. The story for both teams starts in the goal. Niklas Backstrom has been absolutely stellar this season for the Wild and has carried them through a rough stretch in October where the Wild, thankfully, salvaged the last 2 games of the month by beating the Rangers at home and then going to Pittsburgh the nex...
After an impressive win over the Rangers on Tuesday night the Vancouver Canucks take their limping roadshow out to the mid west to play the Wild. It's hard not to refer to the Canucks as creative they find new ways to lose man games...this time it's Shane O'Brien who is out for a one game suspension for poking Sean Avery.
Ahh yes, another SOB meathead play. It's kinda funny, if you haven't se...
The Minnesota Wild have recalled goaltender Anton Khudobin (koo-DOH'-bin) from the minors while backup Josh Harding recovers from an injury. Khudobin was recalled Tuesday from Houston of the AHL. He's 4-2 with a 1.77 goals against average in six games for the Aeros. Khudobin was a seventh-round pick in 2004 by the Wild out of Kazakhstan.
Last season, we blogged about some of the most embarrassingly awful bobblehead dolls in recent hockey history,...
