Calgary got waxed last night so expect them to rebound against the Kings tomorrow afternoon.
Rob Scuderi isn't going to play and there's no replacement for Ryan Smyth. The Kings will have no depth and Peter Harrold, a defenseman/utility player and his whopping one point will skate as a forward.
Terry Murray is moving Raitis Ivanas to the 3rd line with Michal Handzus and Wayne Simmonds. That'...
For a few hours, Brian Boucher moved from his usual seat on the Philadelphia Flyers' bench to the center of the Los Angeles Kings' target during a 21-shot third period. No wonder this former boy wonder-turned-backup was grateful to sit down again. Mika Pyorala scored his first NHL goal, Boucher made 37 saves in his first victory since his return to Philadelphia, and the Flyers opened a...
Left wing Ryan Smyth could be out of the Los Angeles Kings' lineup for a month because of an upper body injury. Smyth has nine goals and 14 assists in his first 22 games with the Kings, who acquired him from Colorado during the offseason. The 15-year NHL veteran has been a major contributor in Los Angeles' solid start while teaming with league scoring leader Anze Kopitar on the Kings'...
Terry Murray stunned me today at the morning skate in El Segundo when he told me the LA KIngs have asked Wayne Gretzky to come back into the fold.
I asked him a general question about getting Kings' alumni involved in what has become an up and coming club in the NHL. Murray would like to see Gretzky in a permanent capacity.
Here's my story on CSNPhilly.com:

As I mentioned late last night on Twitter (its why ya gots to follow, man!) Smyth could be out a while. The Kings simply said last night it was an "upper body injury" - Helene Elliot stated in her report today that "it might not be serious".
My sources in Florida told me last night that "it was serious" - According to Hammonds latest report, Smyth is expected to see Kings doctors tomorrow. Ter...
Dean Lombardi said he needed about 20 games to evaluate the team and make any adjustments. He’s already added Randy Jones to the D, but after 21 games, here’s my review of the Kings:
The Smyth/Kopitar/Williams line has been one of the best in the league. Kopitar is finally getting the recognition he deserves and Dean Lombardi is breathing a huge sigh of relief given that he signed him to a...
Former King Manny Legace signed a contract two days ago to play for a Carolina team that was 0-9-3 in their last 12 games.
Erik Ersberg was making just his 2nd start this season and hadn’t won a game since last December with a 0-7-2 record.
Something had to give.
Manny Legace discovered quickly what other goaltenders have experience. You cannot stop Smyth/Kopitar/Williams…you can only...
There’s been a multitude of articles on recent headshots that have left players injured or hospitalized. Phaneuf on Okposo, Richards on Booth, Liambas on Fanelli and most recently Glencross on Drury.
I asked the Kings veterans Ryan Smyth, Matt Greene and Sean O’Donnell about what they thought about this alarming trend.
Ryan Smyth
“I knew this question would be coming up. It seems...
While Luc Robitaille was being honored in Toronto, the Kings were entertaining hockey fans as the Versus game was the only NHL game scheduled.
Fans got to see Anze Kopitar, Ryan Smyth and see for themselves if Jonathan Quick is the real deal.
Following their snooze-a-thon against Nashville Saturday afternoon, the Kings came out with a much grittier effort as 11 shots were fired against for...
Following up their 6 game, 10 day road trip in October is a 5 game, 8 day road trip that begins tonight in Chicago.
What is often heard from coaches and players are phrases like “It will be a good bonding experience”.
But what does this mean?
How do players “bond”?
Over the course of the past few weeks I asked Kings players what “bonding” meant to them – I also asked what...
At 36 years old does he still have game?
Is he an upgrade over Michal Handzus or an insurance policy should Jarret Stoll's arthritic condition reemerge? Will he be an asset or a disruption to a tight locker room?
These are the questions Dean Lombardi and Ron Hextall will be asking themselves over the next day or two. They certainly liked the option of having a solid veteran defenseman in Ran...
Letdown? Playing Down to Competition? 1:00 start? The Kings began the game so sluggishly Terry Murray called a timeout halfway through the first period.
It didn’t help.
The Kings began the 2nd period with a 5 on 3. They wound up with 4 shots on goal for the entire frame. The penalty kill, which had stopped 26 of the last 29, gave one up to Francis Bouillon… his first of the season.
Fo...
Taking the ice this morning for a practice that lasted an hour and forty five minutes, Kings coach Terry Murray had changed up his lines once again. Dustin Brown skated on a line with Scott Parse and Jarret Stoll while Wayne Simmonds skated with Michal Handzus and Teddy Purcell.
Absent was Alexander Frolov who didn't record a shot last night and was relatively invisible for the 3rd period. When...
If the Kings are “Learning to Win”, could this be the game that catapults them into the playoffs?
Two weeks ago in Columbus, the Kings took an early 1-0 lead, then gave it up in with less than a minute to play in the 1st period. That goal deflated the team. They lost momentum and they lost focus. Tonight, the Kings took an early 1-0 lead thanks Anze Kopitar’s 11th goal of the season, but...
The Phoenix Coyotes gave the Kings' Drew Doughty an open look at the goal. He buried the chance. Doughty scored the go-ahead goal with 4:51 remaining and Los Angeles rallied to beat the Phoenix Coyotes 5-3 Monday night. "No one on their team tried to block my shot so I had a whole lane to the net," Doughty said.
So far so good - October has been very very good to the Kings but I'm not quite writing a check for my playoff tickets just yet. If they can stop blowing 3-4 goal leads and learn to finish off opponents, then the playoff talk can commence.
Anze Kopitar has finally found a mate in Ryan Smyth but I also remember when Mike Cammalleri had 10 goals through the first 10 games and then teams shut him...

Ryane Clowe got something more important than his first official goal of the season. He scored shootout winner. Clowe overcame a rough start to the season by scoring in the sixth round of a shootout, and Evgeni Nabokov stopped Jarret Stoll moments later to give the San Jose Sharks a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night.
Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo will miss at least the next two games after suffering a hairline fracture in one of his ribs.
Good teams find a way to win and the road weary Sharks did just that.
Following their 6 game east coast road trip in which they went 4-2, the Sharks looked a bit sluggish in the 1st period as the Kings peppered Evgeni Nabakov with 13 shots. Finally, in the 2nd period, the flaming hot Alexander Frolov scored on a wrap-around giving him his 3rd goal in 2 games and his 7th point in 4.
Jonathan...
A true David and Goliath matchup, minus the fortuitous slingshot, you might have brushed off a meeting between the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings last season. Compelling as a cold and predictable as the Predators, I’ll admit that I would have been tempted to flip the channels a little, especially if Game 1 of the World Series and the Golden State Warriors’ home opener were happening on...
On Sunday night during the first period of the Columbus/Kings game, Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi dropped down into a crouch and upended Blue Jackets winger Jason Chimera.
(WATCH DUAL FEED HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIav-Su5-bs&feature=player_embedded#)
No penalty was called on the play but after a review by the NHL they deemed it an illegal hit and fined Scuderi an undisclosed amou...
Rich Hammond from LAKings Insider is reporting that according to GM Dean Lombardi, Rob Scuderi will be fined but not suspended for his hit on Jason Chimera last night, The fine has been undisclosed.

Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch is also reporting that even though Derek Dorsett jumped over the boards to get at Scuderi, he will neither be fined...
Anze Kopitar picked up right where he left off this week scoring two more goals and adding to his league lead. Alexander Frolov must have heard Terry Murray loud and clear because he scored two goals and added an assist en route to his 6th point since his benching less than a week ago.
Couple that with an exhausted Blue Jackets team who played a physical game against the Ducks last night, their...
Jarret Stoll scored his first two goals of the season and Dustin Brown also scored twice in the Los Angeles Kings' 5-3 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night. Wayne Simmonds added a goal and Anze Kopitar had three assists to help the Kings win their third straight game. Shane Doan had two goals, and Radim Vrbata also scored for Phoenix.
