For Max Comtois, this is a season he'll be happy to put behind him.

Between getting COVID-19 and suffering injuries, he only played in 51 contests and wasn't effective when he was in the lineup. He has five goals and 15 games this season, down from 33 points in 55 games in 2020-21. â€œIt’s just an embarrassing season for me,” Comtois said. “It was hard. It was depressing. Right now, I just want to play good. I want to do my own thing and not be afraid to make plays out there. That’s just the mindset I have right now. I think it’s working.” He is finishing the season on a bit of a high note with two goals and three points in his last two games. Still, it should do him some good to wrap up the season and focus on regrouping for the 2022-23 campaign. It wouldn't be surprising to see him bounce back next season.

Max Comtois has always enjoyed the trade deadline and his name being part of it now hasn't changed that.

“I just think it’s the fun part of the year, honestly,” Comtois said. â€œEver since I grew up, it was the one part of the year that I would just watch on TV. I’d look at all the names that were going around and there’s always a lot of rumors. I think it’s pretty funny. I have no control. I’m just trying to play my game. I’ve had a pretty hard season. I’m trying to turn things around and that’s just the main focus right now. … I don’t know why that ‘change of scenery’ would be good for me. I’m in a good space here.” Comtois had a strong 2020-21 campaign with 16 goals and 33 points in 55 contests, but he's declined to 10 points in 37 games this season. Lately he's gotten a chance to play alongside Adam Henrique and that's helped. He's scored goal and four points in his last six contests. Comtois isn't one of the most popular names in Ducks trade rumors, but Anaheim is expected to make more trades and he might end up being a part of that.

The Anaheim Ducks will not dress Max Comtois on Friday against the Sharks.

David Backes has signed a one-day contract with the St. Louis Blues and announced his retirement. 

Backes wanted to retire as a member of the organization that selected him in the second round of the 2003 NHL Draft. He played for the Blues for the first 10 seasons of his NHL career before heading to the Boston Bruins and skating as a member of the Anaheim Ducks for parts of the last two years. "Following my last game, it was clear to me that I needed to retire as a member of the St. Louis Blues. That night reiterated that St. Louis was my home," wrote Backes in an emotional farewell that was posted by the Blues. "It is where my wife and I grew into adulthood and it was the organization we needed to retire with. The feeling was mutual with the Blues and I am so humbled that this journey has come full circle for me to end this amazing ride with the same organization that called my name at the draft 18 years ago." Backes earned 248 goals, 561 points and 1,148 penalty minutes in 965 career NHL outings.
