News: Sidney Crosby left the Pittsburgh Penguins' exhibition game against Columbus early in the first period Thursday night because of a groin injury that wasn't believed to be serious. Crosby played three shifts totaling 1:37 of ice time before skating to the bench under his own power about 5 minutes into the game. He then left the bench walked to the dressing room. "It's better to stay off it. I'm hoping for just a few days," Crosby said. "I've hurt my groin before. It's not as bad. I think I missed five games with one last year. It's just something you have to be careful with." Pittsburgh coach Dan Bylsma said he wasn't concerned when Crosby left the bench and walked through the tunnel to the dressing room. "It was more precautionary than anything else," Bylsma said. "It's been tight for a couple of days." [...]

Our View: Malkin led the league in points last season, and with Sidney Crosby on his team he should put up similar numbers this season. He may not have the star power of Crosby, but Malkin is as important to the success in Pittsburgh, if not more.

According to the Twitter page of Penguins' writer Brian Metzer, Sidney Crosby left Thursday's preseason game with a groin injury. The injury is not expected to be serious, but Crosby will not return to the game.

Our View: Everyone involved with the Penguins had to be awfully nervous when Sid went down, but it doesn't look like there is anything to worry about. He should be fine for the regular season, and he figures tp continue to produce at an elite level.
