Shaun Hill has been demoted behind Alex Smith on the 49ers' quarterback depth chart. Hill led a stagnant passing "attack" in the first five and a half games, one that was easily game planned against by stacking eight in the box with no long-ball threat. His 6.1 YPA and 56.1 completion rate both rank 27th among QBs, and Hill has taken 18 sacks (tied for fifth most). Drop him in all leagues, though Smith is prone to injury. We wouldn't rule out seeing Hill again in '09.

News: 49ers RB Frank Gore, who had a 64-yard scoring run at Indianapolis but was otherwise held in check by the Colts last week, said he's noticing improvement with the team's run blocking, even if others aren't. "I tell my guys up front that the number one thing we have to do is to just get positive yards every time," Gore said Wednesday. 49ers LT Barry Sims said he can't put his finger on why, with the exception of Gore's long touchdown scamper, the team struggled to run the ball against the Colts. "We didn't get into any kind of rhythm," he said. "Every time we took two steps forward, our drives would stall with some kind of penalty or some other mistake."

Analysis: Gore faces the Titans in Week 9, and Tennessee just allowed a big rushing outing against Maurice Jones-Drew last week. Gore should be considered a solid starting option against the Titans, who are allowing more than 112 rushing yards per game with seven touchdowns on the year. Hopefully, Gore can have a more consistent game against the Titans and not rely on just one big run

Frank Gore runs right up the gut of the Indianapolis defense. Defensive back Jerraud Powers delivers a big body-blow, but Gore just bounces off and keeps on running, one of two broken tackles on the way to a 64-yard San Francisco touchdown.

Gore had a 64-yard TD run in San Francisco's 18-14 loss to Indianapolis on Sunday.

Impacts: Gore finished with 13 carries for 91 yards and five receptions for 43 yards.

FF Today's Take: This will definately create more problems along the offensive line in San Francisco. A leaky line could force the 49ers to use backs and tight ends to help with block assignments.

Vernon Davis does not anticipate taking on an increased pass-blocking role despite the loss of 49ers LT Joe Staley (knee). "There's confidence to rely on Barry Sims to get it done (at left tackle)," Davis said. This is a slight concern going forward with Staley out 6-8 weeks, but Davis would be impossible to sit in fantasy. Analysis: Davis continues to emerge as a No. 1 Fantasy option. Continue to start him in all leagues, especially with an outstanding matchup in Week 9 against the Titans

Vernon Davis only notched three receptions for 20 yards, but one of them went for an eight-yard touchdown in the Week 8 loss at Indianapolis.

Our View: In the last five games, Davis has compiled 26 receptions for 303 yards and seven touchdowns. The four-year veteran is now a top-five tight end in all formats, and an every-week starter.

Josh Morgan played just 27 snaps versus 41 for Isaac Bruce in last week's game against the Colts. Morgan cost the Niners 15 yards for an excessive celebration flag on a Vernon Davis score, a penalty which Mike Singletary called "just not being smart." The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree is expected to start in his NFL debut this Sunday against the Texans. He will line up across the field from Isaac Bruce.

Our View: Well, that didn't take long. Reports of Crabtree getting buried on the depth chart appear to have been greatly exaggerated. Claims of him likely being behind Josh Morgan, Brandon Jones and Arnaz Battle were all well and good, but flawed for one reason - they're not as talented as Crabtree is. This accelerates his time-table for fantasy relevancy, as well, just don't expect any immediate miracles.

Goldson notched 10 total tackles (9 solo) and one pass deflection in Sunday's loss against the Colts.

Spin: Goldson has proven to a very solid IDP option as he has finished with at least seven total tackles in his last five games, averaging eight tackles during that span.Mon, Nov 2

49ers signed seventh-round S Curtis Taylor to a four-year, $1.8 million contract. The deal includes a $59,880 signing bonus. Taylor, who replaced LaRon Landry as LSU's free safety in his junior year, has intriguing size at 6'3/204, but battled inconsistency and injuries in college. Analysis: Willis wreaked havoc, often blitzing untouched and coming at the Rams' offense from every angle to finish with eight tackles -- five solo, three for loss -- and 2 1/2 sacks to go with three other hits on Kyle Boller in Week 4. "To be at the age he is (he's 24) and do the things he's doing, it's remarkable," linebacker Takeo Spikes said after the Week 4 win. "He's the best." Willis is one of the best playmakers in the NFL and a must-start Fantasy option Week 5 against Atlanta

News: Veteran San Francisco linebacker Jeff Ulbrich won't play again this season because of a concussion. He might be done altogether. The 49ers placed the 32-year-old Ulbrich on injured reserve Monday, ending his season. He sustained a concussion on the opening kickoff against St. Louis on Oct. 4 and was examined by a neurologist last week. Coach Mike Singletary said Monday the team concluded it was in Ulbrich's best interest to go on IR. The 10th-year pro, who is away from the team this week handling personal business, has said he's not ruling out retirement after sustaining more concussions during his career than he can count. He acknowledged he needs to think about his long-term health, future and family. "We really have a conservative approach in everything we do as it pertains to our players," Singletary said. "We want to make sure that even though we come out here and we stress the physicality of what we're trying to do and what we're trying to bring across, at the same time on the other side of that we want to make sure we take care of our players. Because taking care of the players means we're taking care of their families as well, in the long run."

Analysis: The veteran shouldn't be on any Fantasy rosters going forward
