Jackson missed his seventh day and 10th practice of St. Louis Rams training camp Thursday, with no apparent movement in the impasse.Impacts: Jackson, entering the final season of a four-year contract he signed after the Rams drafted him in the first round in 2004, is seeking a multiyear deal. The Rams are fining Jackson, who has three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, $15,000 a day and have told his agent, Eugene Parker, there will be no more negotiations until Jackson reports to camp.

Coach Scott Linehan said, "Jackson just says, Im working, I ran today, lifted, howd practice go, that kind of stuff. We just kind of let him know where were at and things that are going on. Hes real focused on whats going on at camp, so his heads definitely in the right place."The Rams and Jacksons agent, Eugene Parker, have been negotiating a long-term extension, and signing him is a priority, according to Linehan. Keeping a close eye on a situation near and dear to the hearts of fantasy owners, reports out of St. Louis indicate running back Steven Jackson and his agent had received a new contract offer from the Rams, but their decision to reject that proposal led to his absence at training camp and now the sides are in the midst of a negotiating stare down, according to the Associated Press.Jackson's agent, Eugene Parker, turned down an offer Friday afternoon that the team said would have put Jackson in the top tier at his position in terms of pay. Coach Scott Linehan had anticipated a holdout Thursday when Jackson informed him he would not be on the team charter flight from St. Louis, although he didn't relay those fears until after the first practice. The Rams have taken a stance that they will not be continuing talks until Jackson reports for camp. Rams president of football operations Jay Zygmunt said the team approached Jackson about a longterm deal shortly after last season, but talks were delayed when the running back switched agents last month. Zygmunt also told reporters the team has made several contract offers, and declined to say how far apart the parties remained. Parker told him after turning down the offer that Jackson would not be in camp Friday, but Zygmunt was unclear how much longer the holdout would last without a deal.

"I said that as soon as he got into camp and he does show up, we'd like to continue the negotiations. But we will not be negotiating while he is out of camp," said Rams executive Jay Zygmunt.Jackson will get his money at some point, and with new offensive coordinator Al Saunders now running the show, he could be in store for a monster year, so the sooner he gets to camp, the better.
