FF Today's Take: Burress has had his case moved back to February of next year. Since NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell isn't likely to hand down any league suspensions until after his case has been ruled on, it appears the former Giants receiver should be able to play in 2009. Burress was released by the Giants in April and is currently a free agent.

News: Former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress testified Wednesday before the grand jury that is investigating weapons charges against him and told reporters outside that he was sorry for his actions. "I was truthful, I was honest, and I'm truly remorseful for what I've done and for what happened," Burress said outside a Manhattan courthouse. Burress' attorney, Benjamin Brafman, said the one-time Super Bowl star wanted to address the grand jury. "I agreed that in order to humanize him they needed to see who he was and what this man was about," Brafman said. He added, "We are hopeful that the grand jury found Mr. Burress to be honest and truthful. They listened carefully, and now we'll just wait and see what happens." [...]

The AP reports that Plaxico Burress testified in front of a grand jury on Wednesday morning. The jury is investigating the November weapons charges against Burress. Afterwards, outside the courthouse, Plax told reporters that he was truly remorseful for what occured.
Our View: Smart money is still on Burress getting jail time and not playing this season. The unemployed receiver says he told the truth and if so, he clearly admitted to breaking a very serious law in New York City.

Impacts: Burress and his attorney, Benjamin Brafman, spoke after entering the courthouse to testify before the Manhattan grand jury. Brafman says his client decided on his own to testify. The 31-year-old Burress shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub in November. He was charged with weapon possession and faces up to 3 1/2 years in prison. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on $100,000 bail. The Giants released Burress in April.

Our View: It's not sounding good for Plax. The embattled receiver is determined not to serve more than a year in the 'pen, however, and his attorney has said that "Now that they have drawn a line in the sand, this is going to be a battle." Stay tuned.
