The Bears are no longer likely to sign Plaxico Burress, according to ESPN.
Our View: Potential Plax suitors keep falling by the wayside. If he does get to play in 2009, a big if depending on commissioner Roger Goodell's ruling, some team will surely sign him, but prognosticating who at this juncture is fruitless.

Plaxico Burress' future still on hold
Don't expect WR Plaxico Burress to sign with a team before training camp. The Jets don't plan on doing anything at this point. The Bears have taken the position over the past couple days that they probably won't do anything, either. The Buccaneers are still interested and there might be a fourth team. The possibility of an indictment, stemming from Burress' accidental, self-inflicted shooting in November, before August may have slowed teams' pursuit of the free-agent wideout. On June 15, a judge...

Don’t Count On Plaxico To Make Good Decisions On His Next Team
With his pending criminal charges not likely to go to trial until March 2010 at the earliest, receiver Plaxico Burress is, as a practical matter, clear to play football in 2009. Sure, he might still be suspended (we’ll have more on that one later in the day), but he won’t be incarcerated for carrying a gun [...]
2009 Trial Still Possible For Plaxico?
Despite the fact that the case against receiver Plaxico Burress has languished for seven months, fueled by prosecutors who twice have agreed to three-month continuances of preliminary-style hearings, a new report suggests that Burress could be standing trial before the end of the year. Grabd jury to hear Burress case next month
According to the Chicago Tribune, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said a grand jury will hear the case against Plaxico Burress next month. This could mean Burress will face a trial date sometime during the NFL season, instead of after the season as his attorney originally said.
Our View: Things just got interesting for any team looking at signing Plax. This by no means guarantees an earlier trial, but it is now a distinct possibility, whereas a week ago it looked like a foregone conclusion that his trial would be after the season. Between the sure-to-be lengthy suspension likely to be handed down by Commissioner Goodell and the possibility of a trial during the season, Plaxico's chances of playing this season are starting to look bleak.

Burress made a brief appearance in court Monday, accompanied by his wife and attorney Benjamin Brafman. Judge Felicia Mennin adjourned the case until Sept. 23.
Impacts: Outside court Monday, Brafman said it was "inconceivable" that Burress would face trial on the charge before 2010, said several teams were trying to sign his client, and "physically he's in the best shape of his life. He's ready to play." Burress' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, posted on Twitter Monday that he hopes to have a deal with an NFL team for Burress before training camp starts.

The AP reports that Plaxico Burress will make a court appearance on Monday, but the case is expected to be sdjourned until September. At that point, he should know the consequences of shooting himself in the leg with an unlicensed pistol. A trial is not expected to occur before next spring.

The case is being adjourned until September 23, when at that time Burress will likely be indicted on the charges and be scheduled to face a trial in the spring of 2010. This opens the door for Burress to sign with a team and prepare for what might amount to an entire NFL season in 2009 -- assuming that a club offers Plax a deal knowing that he's going to have lots of distractions. The Buccaneers, Giants and Bears are among the teams that could consider targeting Burress if he does in fact get to play this season.
