New Orleans Saints running back Mike Bell (RB, DL), who sprained his right knee in the fourth quarter Sunday against Philadelphia, said Monday that an MRI showed no structural damage. The injury is a sprained medial collatoral ligament, Coach Sean Payton said. Bell said he has full range of motion and hopes to play Sunday against Buffalo, but the decision is up to the team."The news on Bell's knee was positive," Payton said. "I really don't want to put a time frame on it. I really won't know that until Wednesday, but it's a lot less severe than we anticipated. I don't what that does for his status this week, but it's only Monday right now. Again, the doctors feel pretty good about the nature of that injury." The injury is similar to the knee injury that sidelined running back Pierre Thomas for two preseason games and the first regular-season game, Bell said. Our View: Bell possesses the qualities that the Saints covet in a featured back, as he runs hard between the tackles and has enough speed and quickness to be a threat. Bell broke loose for 143 yards on 28 rushing attempts in the season opener against Detroit, and should be scooped up if dangling on the waiver wire in fantasy leagues - especially as insurance if you own Thomas.

Brian Allee-Walsh, of The New Orleans Times Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (knee) sustained a gash to his right knee earlier this week while trying to free his dog from a chain-link fence. "I tried to squeeze through this gate and I got my leg caught. I was in a rush and I know should have been more careful, but it was dark and I couldn't seen and I scraped my leg," Thomas said. He noted he received between 4 to 6 stitches to close the wound. He is dealing with a sprained MCL in the same knee, and Thomas is questionable for the team's Week 1 game versus the Detroit Lions. While he did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 9, he did ride a stationary bike on the sidelines and did some jogging. He plans to attempt to practice Thursday with the aid of a new, fitted knee brace. "I don't know why this it's taking this long. That's why I'm hoping I can go tomorrow. My doctor is going to check it out tomorrow and hopefully he gives me the thumbs up," Thomas said.
