First-round holdout Michael Crabtree hasn't spoken with 49ers management in two weeks, according to Profootballtalk.com. A league source tells PFT that there's been "zero communication," which meshes with what beat writer Matt Maiocco has "tweeted" on the matter recently. [...]
All silent between Crabtree, Niners

49ers | Crabtree earning money in endorsements
Liz Mullen, of SportsBusiness Journal, reports a marketing agent for San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree said he has made enough money for Crabtree in endorsement deals that he will not be pressured to play football for some time. "He has made over 750 grand in marketing dollars," agent Mike Ornstein said. "It is not that he doesn’t want to play, but he is not under the gun to."

Parker has no sense of urgency on Crabtree
Michael Crabtree, who left the Bay Area a couple of weeks ago, is now working out in the Orlando area. And there's a perception that agent Eugene Parker now has zero sense of urgency to resolve the contract impasse, according to Pro Football Talk.
Our View: Both sides are hunkered down in their positions, and Crabtree will be required to sit out the entire 2009 season if a contract doesn't get signed by November 17.

Crabtree talks having ripple effect
Stalled contract talks between the 49ers and first-round pick Michael Crabtree are having widespread implications. Crabtree is trying to get top-three money, even though he was drafted with the 10th selection. Picks from No. 9 to No. 13 are waiting to see whether he can. Talks with all first-round picks are heating up, but very few deals are getting done. Many of the 32 teams report to training camp this week.Vick update: It doesn't appear Michael Vick will be signed this week, according to sources....
49ers taking extreme measures with Crabtree
You can view the 49ers' tampering charge against the Jets as more a message to Michael Crabtree than an appeal to get a draft choice. The idea was to let Crabtree know that his earning potential in next year's draft is hard to gauge and any conversations about the 2010 draft with another team will be viewed as tampering. Proving a charge against the Jets will be tough, particularly knowing their current record is 2-0. If the Jets make the playoffs, the highest they could pick in next year's draft...

Jets Tampering With Crabtree?
49ers File Tampering Charges With League Office
The Jets' long-running pursuit of a high-profile wide receiver could land them in hot water with the NFL.The 49ers, embroiled in an acrimonious contract dispute with rookie receiver Michael Crabtree, have filed tampering charges against the Jets, sources told the Daily News. The Jets, through a team spokesman, denied the allegations. Although the specifics aren't known, it's not hard to connect the dots. Crabtree, the 10th overall pick in the draft, is threatening to sit out the season and reenter the draft in 2010. The 49ers may believe the Jets contacted Crabtree's agent, Eugene Parker, to let him know they'd be interested in trading for his rights, or in drafting him in 2010 with a better salary than the 49ers are offering. The NFL's trade deadline is Oct.20, while the 49ers must either sign Crabtree by Nov.19, or surrender his rights, putting him back into the draft pool for 2010. Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, approached after yesterday's 16-9 win over the Patriots, declined to comment. (NY Daily News)
FF Today's Take: These charges are serious and will be investigated by the league. Fantasy owners should not expect to see Crabtree on the field any time soon.

Did Jets tamper with Crabtree?
The 49ers are accusing the New York Jets of tampering with holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree, according to the New York Daily News.
Our View: The 49ers believe the Jets have contacted Crabtree's agent Eugene Parker and communicated the message that they would be "interested in trading for his rights, or in drafting him in 2010 with a better salary than the 49ers are offering." Yikes. More is sure to develop on this, so stay tuned.

Niners won't trade Crabtree
The San Francisco 49ers do not plan to trade Michael Crabtree even if he theatens to sit out the entire season, according to ESPN.com. GM Jed York feels the team is in good shape with two first-round picks next season, and they still want Crabtree to play in San Fran.
Our View: The 49ers really like Crabtree as a player and they want him to join the team. They aren't likely to make a trade unless someone blows their socks off, and we still think Crabtree will be a Niner this season.

49ers' president wants to meet with Crabtree
According to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, 49ers' team president Jed York has informed Michael Crabtree and his agent, Eugene Parker, that he would like to meet with the pair in person to discuss the contract negotiations. York told the paper that he hadn't received a response from the Crabtree camp.
Our View: Maybe York thinks he can persuade Crabtree and Parker to take the deal that is on the table if he speaks to them face-to-face. We doubt it, although it has been rumored that the Niners may be getting close to caving to the receiver's demands. We will continue to monitor the situation going forward, and we will let you know if anything changes.

Niners could be caving to Crabtree
The 49ers could be caving to holdout draft pick Michael Crabtree and making him an improved offer, according to CBS Sports.
Our View: Specifics are scarce, but it is believed they are prepared to offer the tenth overall pick from last spring's draft a deal better than the five year, $20 million (with $16 million guaranteed)one currently on the table. A deal would greatly benefit both sides, so expect something to get done soon.
It is believed that the 49ers will reduce the guaranteed portion
It is believed that the 49ers will reduce the guaranteed portion ($16 million) of their unconfirmed offer ($20 million over five years) by $200,000 for each game that Crabtree misses before signing his contract, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. [...]

New offer coming for Crabtree?
News: Coach Mike Singletary said Monday the 49ers have discussed changing their offer to top draft pick Michael Crabtree. Whether the franchise has reached out to the former Texas Tech star formally, Singletary wasn't sure. He has asked the brass to keep him completely out of it so he can focus on the 53 players he has on the active roster. "At this time in the year, that may be the case," Singletary said of making a new offer. "At this point, the whole Crabtree thing, it's over there. I'm focused over here." [...]

Niners would hold onto Crabtree's rights until 2010 draft
The San Francisco Chronicle points out that 49ers' rookie Michael Crabtree would not be able to work out for teams prior to the 2010 draft if he decides to sit out this season. The team will retain his rights until draft day, so he will be be able to participate in any pre-draft activities.
Our View: Crabtree is almost guaranteed to drop well below his slot if he sits this season out, which makes you wonder why he would even consider it. He won't be allowed to talk to or work out for anyone before the draft, and after this season it wouldn't make sense for anyone to use a high pick on him. The Niners hold all the cards here, and Crabtree needs to realize that before he ruins his career before it even gets started.
49ers | Crabtree update
Updating previous items, John Crumpacker, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports if San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree does not sign with the team by Nov. 17, he will not be eligible to play in 2009. The 49ers hold Crabtree's rights until the day of the 2010 NFL Draft, which means if he intends to re-enter the draft, he cannot work out for individual teams beforehand, participate in the NFL Scouting Combine or even talk to teams interested in his services.

Crabtree, 49ers entrenched in stance
At this time -- and that's an important distinction to be made -- there is every expectation that former Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree will not sign with the San Francisco 49ers and instead will sit out this season and reenter the draft in April, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Our View: The report cites multiple sources out of the Bay Area, and also states the 49ers still want Crabtree, they still think he can make an impact, it's just that no one in the organization can now envision a way in which it would happen. We think the young man is making a big mistake, as he will never be able recoup the money currently on the table, and sitting out an entire season has rarely yielded positive results in the past.

Crabtree won't sign 49ers offer
According to ESPN.com, puzzling wideout Michael Crabtree has already decided that he won't sign at the price the 49ers are prepared to offer him.
Our View: The Niners are offering 10th pick money, a five-year $20 million deal that maxes out at $26.5 million, but Crabtree isn't interested. He feels he deserves more money regardless of where he was drafted, even though he's never appeared in a professional football game. He's willing to sit out the entire season, and if one side doesn't budge, that's exactly what he'll do. Looks like greed trumps the love of the game.

49ers not concerned about Crabtree
News: Michael Crabtree is all but forgotten around the San Francisco 49ers these days. Coach Mike Singletary has been saying since the start he can't worry about Crabtree's unsigned contract. Now that the 49ers are days away from opening the regular season Sunday at Arizona, perhaps Crabtree should be the one concerned. He's not even a focus anymore, barely mentioned at team headquarters. He's so far behind that his rookie season could be lost even if he does finally show up for practice and pull on his No. 15 jersey -- or at least his impact might be significantly less than had he reported on time. "I thought I'd see Crabtree by now, but he's not here," tight end Vernon Davis said Wednesday. "He could help the team out, but he's not here and we have to move forward. We can't wait." [...]

49ers | Dilfer works out with Crabtree
Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports former NFL QB Trent Dilfer recently worked out with San Francisco 49ers first-round draft choice WR Michael Crabtree because Crabtree wanted to work with an actual quarterback and not catch passes from a machine. Dilfer said Crabtree is completely healthy and is in the San Francisco area waiting to sign with the 49ers.

Crabtree getting crazier
A "source close to" mercurial 49ers rookie Michael Crabtree said on Tuesday that he is "weird enough that he just might do it" when asked if Crabtree might actually holdout the entire 2009 NFL season and re-enter the draft next year, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Our View: Even though the 49ers remain optimistic he will sign at some point since they believe a holdout "defies all logic," Crabtree will have no fantasy value this season even if he does sign since he will no doubt be in coach Mike Singletary's doghouse and amazingly far behind on learning the team's system.
