NFL.com reports Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said the team would like to sign RB Maurice Jones-Drew to a contract extension, according to USA Today. Jones-Drew�'s contract expires after the 2009 season. Del Rio said, �"I think Maurice is a great football player and an even better teammate. So I would like to have us get him done. There is a process that takes place where two sides try and get something done and we�'ll work at that privately to get that done and hopefully that�'ll be resolved shortly.�"

With Jacksonville's release of Fred Taylor, its all-time rushing leader, on Monday, Maurice Jones-Drew becomes the team's unquestioned feature back heading into next year.It seems likely that the Jaguars would add another option at tailback this offseason, either through the draft or free agency, as they're quite thin in depth after Jones-Drew with unproven options like Alvin Pearman, Montell Owens and Chauncey Washington to go along with fullback Greg Jones.
