Sanchez outplays Clemens on Day 1
News: The New York Daily News reports Jets rookie QB Mark Sanchez outplayed Kellen Clemens on the first day of training camp. Clemens was listed as No. 1 on the depth chart, but coach Rex Ryan was impressed with Sanchez. "I thought he had a really good day," Ryan said. Specifically, Ryan mentioned that Sanchez threw the deep out and come-back routes "exceptionally well." Sanchez's best moment was a long completion to Chansi Stuckey in a one-on-one drill, drawing cheers from the sparse crowd. Ryan said Clemens showed "good command of the huddle." [...]
Sanchez received the slight edge from coach Rex Ryan on Friday
Sanchez received the slight edge from coach Rex Ryan on Friday in the first practice of what could be a summer-long competition with Kellen Clemens to be the New York Jets' starting quarterback.
Impacts: Clemens is listed as No. 1 on the team's depth chart, followed by Sanchez, Erik Ainge and undrafted free agent Chris Pizzotti.
Jets | Sanchez taking it one day at a time
New York Jets rookie QB Mark Sanchez said the coaching staff has not told the players any timetable for naming a starting quarterback. "It's a marathon, not a sprint," Sanchez said. He noted he is trying not to look at the big picture in terms of the competition; instead he is just focusing on one practice at a time. "It's only day one and it was a great start, but I've got to keep working," Sanchez said.
Jets | Sanchez feels prepared entering training camp
New York Jets rookie QB Mark Sanchez said he was able to get his conditioning test out of the way a couple of days ago and he has been preparing mentally for training camp by staying on top of the playbook. Sanchez said he also spent time throwing to people back at his home. Due to the early rookie practices, Sanchez feels he was able to shake off some of the rust and get the soreness out of the way early. Sanchez enters training camp as the team's No. 2 quarterback.
