Jets after Miller
Justin Miller is expected to sign with the Jets later today to take the roster spot of injured running back/special teamer Leon Washington, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Our View: Miller was with the Raiders for one game earlier this season, but was promptly cut. He is expected to return kicks in New York.

RB Washington placed on IR
News: Jets running back Leon Washington has been placed on season-ending injured reserve after having surgery in which a rod was inserted into his broken right leg. Washington suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula when a Raiders defender rolled up on his leg after a 6-yard run in the first quarter of the Jets' 38-0 win Sunday. He underwent a two-hour operation at Berkeley's Alta Bates Hospital shortly after the injury, and a rod was inserted into the tibia to stabilize the fracture. The team said doctors expect the fibula to heal on its own. The team said it expects Washington to make a full recovery. [...]

Washington placed on IR
Leon Washington has been placed on injured reserve with a fractured fibula, officially ending his 2009 season.
Our View: For a short time, it was thought he might avoid IR and return late in the season, but the team apparently thought better of risking a roster spot on a player who might not return. The injury is a nightmare for Washington, who was angling for a new contract. For what it's worth, Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum has said Washington will be with the organization for a "long, long time."

Jets' Washington Breaks Leg
Out For Remainder Of Season
OAKLAND - Thomas Jones' voice shook with emotion. He had just rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown in a historic ground assault yesterday by the Jets, 38-0 winners over the Raiders, but he was down and distracted. His mind was elsewhere - at a local hospital, where Leon Washington was having emergency surgery. Washington, who remained in the Oakland area to avoid infection by traveling cross-country, is done for the season. In an ominous text message to reporters an hour after the game, the team announced he will be out "indefinitely." It's a 12-week injury, the person familiar with the situation said, although there was immediate speculation among some teammates that it could be career-threatening. (Daily News)
FF Today's Take: The Jets will feel the loss of Washington who was just starting to get going this season. Thomas Jones' value gets a bump up and rookie Shonn Greene's expected increase in carries makes him a quality waiver wire addition this week.
Jets | L. Washington took out insurance policy

Jets | Washington will not necessarily be placed on IR yet
Updating a previous report, NFL.com reports the New York Jets have said RB Leon Washington (fibula) is not necessarily headed to Injured Reserve at this time.
Washington has surgery on leg
News: New York Jets running back Leon Washington broke his right leg in the first quarter against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday and underwent surgery after the game. Washington went down on his only carry of the day when a defender rolled up on his right leg after a 6-yard run. Teammates said the bone broke through the skin, and it was visible on the field. Washington was helped off the field by two trainers and then taken away on a cart. He was diagnosed with a broken right fibula and underwent surgery immediately after the Jets' 38-0 victory. The team said he would be out indefinitely. "That's unfortunate," coach Rex Ryan said. "It's obviously a severe injury, but hopefully he'll be joining us sooner than later." [...]
Washington not landing on IR just yet
Holding out hope that he may be able to return before the end of the season, the Jets are, at least for now, keeping Leon Washington (leg) on their active roster and off the injured reserve, according to NFL.com.
Our View: Washington broke his fibula early on in the Jets' game against Oakland on Sunday and underwent surgery on Sunday night. He was originally reported to be done for the season, but it appears that the Jets are playing it safe for now, and are listing their back as simply "out indefinitely". Still, he won't be back anytime soon, and we'd suggest letting him go unless there's literally nobody of use available off waivers. Shonn Greene will assume Washington's role as Thomas Jones' backup.
According to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora, the Jets do not plan

Source: Jets' Washington out with broken leg
New York Jets running back Leon Washington is out for the rest of the season after fracturing his fibula in Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders, a team source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Greene Jets' new backup with Washington out
Updating an earlier report, Leon Washington will miss the remainder of the season with a broken fibula, meaning Shonn Greene will assume the role of Thomas Jones' backup in New York.
Our View: Greene should be a popular waiver wire pickup after this week, as he should be in line for roughly 10-15 carries per week in the Jets' dual-back system. Don't expect Greene to haul in as many receptions as Washington was capable of, but on the plus side, Greene is a very solid goal-line runner. Unfortunately, Jones is unlikely to relinquish that role anytime soon, but that doesn't mean Greene won't get a look near the end zone every now and then.

Washington breaks fibula, done for the year
It's been determined that Leon Washington, who left the Jets' game early on Sunday with a lower-leg injury, suffered a broken fibula and will undergo season-ending surgery on Sunday night or Monday, according to NFL.com.
Our View: This news really comes as a bummer to Washington owners, especially after he was coming off the best game of his season. Feel free to drop him at this point, and you might want to target Shonn Greene off waivers. He'll fill Leon's role as Thomas Jones' backup and probably see about 10-15 touches per week. Still, know that Greene is not nearly the receiver that Washington is, so don't expect similar PPR numbers from the rookie.

Greene cashes in on Washington's injury
Shonn Greene came in for an injured Leon Washington against Oakland on Sunday and had easily the best game of his young career, gaining 144 yards off 19 carries with two touchdowns.
Our View: Keep in mind that the Jets won't be completely annihilating their opponents most weeks, as they were against Oakland. You have to assume that they won't come anywhere near the 54 total carries they doled out today. Still, monitor the status of Washington's lower leg injury, as Greene will be well worth adding to your roster if Washington is forced to miss any further action. If that's the case, expect Greene to see 10-15 touches per week as Thomas Jones' backup.
Jones goes for 121 yards and a score
Thomas Jones ground up Oakland's defense for 121 yards off 26 carries and a one-yard score on the Jets' first drive. Jones added a three-yard reception.
Our View: Jones now has a ridiculous 331 rushing yards the past two weeks and has scored in four-straight games, with seven on the season. He's proving that his big year in 2008 was no fluke and remains a must-start every week. Of note, fellow back Leon Washington left the game early on with a lower-leg injury and Shonn Greene stepped in nicely in his place, though Jones will continue to get enough looks to put up fine numbers regardless of who he's sharing with.

Leon Washington will not return
Updating an earlier report, Leon Washington will not return to today's game at Oakland.
Our View: The Jets noted that he has a lower-leg injury. That opens the door for rookie Shonn Greene to see action in his absence.

Jets scaling back offense for Sanchez
The Jets plan on simplifying their offense for struggling rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, according to Pro Football Talk.
Our View: The Jets have two very talented running backs in Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, and coupled with the fact that Sanchez has thrown eight picks in his last three starts, there is no reason for the Jets to be throwing as much as they have been. Look for Sanchez to throw 15-20 times this weekend instead of the 25-to-30 he has been averaging.
Washington rushed for a season-high 99 yards on 15 carries and
Washington rushed for a season-high 99 yards on 15 carries and recorded another with 46 yards receiving in the Jets' 16-13 overtime loss to visiting Buffalo.
Impacts: It could be a fluke game for Washington as he's averaged 62 combined rushing/receiving yards in the first five games this season. The Jets finished with 318 yards rushing, including a franchise-record 210 from Thomas Jones.
Plenty of yards left for Washington
News: On a day starting RB Thomas Jones set a franchise record by rushing for 210 yards, backup RB Leon Washington got his share too Week 6 against the Bills. He ran 15 times for 99 yards and caught three passes for a team-high 46 yards. [...]

Washington racks up total yards
Leon Washington carried the ball 15 times for 99 yards on the ground and hauled in three passes for 46 yards in the air in Week 6.
Our View: Washington also returned three kicks for 57 yards, so he was all over the place in this one. He failed to get in the end zone, but his total yardage numbers were impressive. He also showed good speed, breaking off a 33-yard run and coming down with a 33-yard reception. He'll continue to split carries with Thomas Jones, but is a solid RB2 or flex play next week against the Raiders.
Jones erupts for 208 yards and a score
Thomas Jones exploded for 208 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries in Sunday's overtime loss to the Bills.
Our View: Jones had runs of 64 and 71 yards, which did most of the damage, and he also caught a pair of passes for 17 yards. It was a surprising effort for the back who splits carries with Leon Washington, but owners who popped him in an RB2 or flex spot this week have to be smiling. He has another nice matchup with the Raiders next week.
Leon Washington had 15 carries for 99 yards and three catches
Leon Washington had 15 carries for 99 yards and three catches for 46 yards in Sunday's loss to the Bills. He also returned three kickoffs. This is the kind of workload the Jets want for Washington. [...]
Washington has busted big ones vs. Bills
News: The Jets host Buffalo in Week 6, and RB Leon Washington will be looking to bust out some big plays again like he did against the Bills last season, when he managed a 47-yard run and a 40-yard reception. Buffalo ranks a miserable 29th against the run and has given up 100-yard games in three straight games. [...]

Washington has another quiet night
After the Jets pledged to get him more involved in the offense this week, Leon Washington carried the ball just 10 times for 44 yards in New York's 31-27 loss to Miami on Monday. He also had one reception for 13 yards.
Our View: Starting running back Thomas Jones didn't see the ball a lot either, carrying it just 13 times, but it still wasn't the kind of night Washington owners were likely envisioning. With Jones also picking New York's two rushing touchdowns on Monday night, Washington still appears to be a ways away from being a fantasy stud.
Washington leads in rushing Week 5
News: Jets RB Leon Washington carried 10 times for 44 yards to lead the Jets in rushing on Monday night as New York fell at Miami in Week 5. Washington, who runs the Jets' version of the wildcat offense, also caught one pass for 13 yards. [...]
Thomas Jones picks up two more touchdowns
Thomas Jones carried the ball just 13 times for 42 yards on Monday night, but found the end-zone twice in New York's 31-27 loss in Miami.
Our View: Jones now has three touchdowns in the past two weeks after scoring just two in the first three weeks of the season. Leon Washington may still take over the starting running back job at some point this season, but for now, Jones remains a viable fantasy option.
NFL: Rex High On Greene
Dave Hutchinson, of The Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has been impressed with RB Shonn Greene and said he wants to use Green as part of a rotation with RBs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. Green rushed for 23 yards on four carries in Week 4, although he did suffer an ankle injury in the game. 'The kid is a good running back,' Ryan said. 'He has some explosiveness. Jets | Ryan impressed with Greene
Dave Hutchinson, of The Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has been impressed with RB Shonn Greene (ankle) and said he wants to use Green as part of a rotation with RBs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. Green rushed for 23 yards on four carries in Week 4, although he did suffer an ankle injury in the game. "The kid is a good running back," Ryan said. "He has some explosiveness. He kind of turned his ankle late in the game. I think this kid has a chance to be a good one."
Jets want Washington to get more touches
After he had just eight touches in the Jets loss to the Saints last weekend, head coach Rex Ryan wants to get Leon Washington more involved on offense, according to the New York Daily News.
Our View: Washington is an explosive talent, but has just 21 combined touches the past two weeks. Sunday's disaster proved the team had been relying too heavily on rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, and there's no doubt that, at least at first, they will have a renewed commitment to getting Leon Washington (and Thomas Jones) the ball in Week 5.
Jets coach Rex Ryan said he was "disappointed" that
Jets coach Rex Ryan said he was "disappointed" that Leon Washington got just eight touches Sunday against the Saints. Ryan has repeatedly said he wants Washington up near the 20 touch mark, so you can be sure he'll talk to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer about that. [...]

Status: I.R.. Out for season
Leon Washington said Thursday that he's ahead of schedule in his return from a broken leg and hopes to rejoin the team in March for the off-season conditioning program. Washington's injury was a double open fracture in his right leg, where the broken tibia and fibular bones came through the skin. A steel rod was placed in his leg, and Washington is beyond the point where infection is a concern. "They expect me to have a full recovery and they're real surprised at my mobility right now," said Washington.
