Our View: While the Jets are not negotiating right now, Tannenbaum expects Washington to be a member of the Jets for a long time, and considers him a great player. Expect Washington to perform well this season while motivated to earn a new contract.

Our View: Coach Rex Ryan does not believe the injury is serious, however. Greene should get some carries in '09, but with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington in the Jets' backfield, not enough to be a viable handcuff.

According to the New York Daily News, the Jets have significantly increased their contract offer to disgruntled running back Leon Washington. The team originally offered $2 million per year, but the new proposal is reportedly worth close to $4.5 million per.

Our View: Washington told the team he is looking for $6 million, but the $4.5 mil is a considerable upgrade from the previous offer. Look for Washington to take the new offer, since the team in unlikely to go over $5 million due to the fact that Washington would be making more than starter Thomas Jones under that scenario.

According to sources, the Jets have an offer on the table that averages $4.5 million a year. Washington is believed to be seeking $6 million per year. Status: I.R.. Out for season
Leon Washington said Thursday that he's ahead of schedule in his return from a broken leg and hopes to rejoin the team in March for the off-season conditioning program. Washington's injury was a double open fracture in his right leg, where the broken tibia and fibular bones came through the skin. A steel rod was placed in his leg, and Washington is beyond the point where infection is a concern. "They expect me to have a full recovery and they're real surprised at my mobility right now," said Washington.
