Dave Hutchinson, of The Star-Ledger, reports the New York Jets want to sign RB Leon Washington to a long-term deal. The team is interested in doing the same with Pro Bowl C Nick Mangold.

Status: I.R.. Out for season
Leon Washington said Thursday that he's ahead of schedule in his return from a broken leg and hopes to rejoin the team in March for the off-season conditioning program. Washington's injury was a double open fracture in his right leg, where the broken tibia and fibular bones came through the skin. A steel rod was placed in his leg, and Washington is beyond the point where infection is a concern. "They expect me to have a full recovery and they're real surprised at my mobility right now," said Washington.
