Updating a previous report, the Washington Redskins have placed injured running back Ladell Betts on injured reserve, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Betts suffered a torn ACL and MCL in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.

Our View: No surprise here, as Betts will require surgery on his injured knee. It looks like Rock Cartwright will get more opportunities with Betts out, so this is a huge hit for an already struggling team.

Our View: Cartwright did a good job after filling in for starter Ladell Betts, who went down with a knee injury. He will be worth a look in fantasy leagues if Clinton Portis (concussion) or Betts are unable to go in Week 12 at Philadelphia.

News: Clinton Portis can take his time coming back from his concussion. "El Boogie" has everything under control. El Boogie? That's a nickname Ladell Betts has had since high school. It's a play on his initials, but he doesn't remember who gave it to him. A flashier running back might have found a way to market it -- maybe a Web site or T-shirts -- but that's not Betts' style. In a way, he's the perfect second fiddle to the flamboyant Portis, choosing to stay in the shadows, waiting for his every-now-and-then chance to make plays. On Wednesday, Betts was in high demand. Portis was seeing a doctor in the city, is unlikely to play again this week against the Cowboys, and may be on the downside of his career after the wear and tear of more 2,000 NFL carries.
