Mark Sanchez has a slight lead in the race for the starting gig at quarterback with the Jets, according to Sports Illustrated. After Friday's practice head coach Rex Ryan said, "It probably was not the best day in throwing completions, but I thought Sanchez had a really good day. When you look at it, he threw a couple of balls that could have been picked, but other than that I thought he threw the comeback and deep out exceptionally well today."
Our View: The top candidates for the job are Sanchez and veteran Kellen Clemens. Sanchez has far more upside, but would not likely be consistent enough as a rookie to trust in fantasy lineups.

Rookie Mark Sanchez received the slight edge from coach Rex Ryan on Friday in the first practice of what could be a summer-long competition with Clemens to be the New York Jets' starting quarterback.
Impacts: Clemens is listed as No. 1 on the team's depth chart, followed by Sanchez, Erik Ainge and undrafted free agent Chris Pizzotti.

New York Jets QB Kellen Clemens said he feels confident after head coach Rex Ryan named him the No. 1 quarterback entering training camp. "It means a lot going into it. I think it gives me more time with the wide receivers and tight ends and the offensive line to develop more chemistry," Clemens said. He said his approach is to do whatever he can to prepare himself and his teammates to be in the best position to win a championship this year. He said he is not worrying himself with the potential of rookie QB Mark Sanchez seeing more reps with the first-string as training camp continues. "It's not my concern because it's not my decision," Clemens said.
