Reports from Indianapolis indicate injured center Jeff Saturday is leaning towards a decision to postpone surgery with hopes of returning to action in six weeks, according to the Sporting News. The News reports a team insider has passed along such news after hearing Saturday express those plans to coach Tony Dungy, and while Saturday will continue to seek medical evaluation, his desire is to play as soon as possible.Meanwhile the team is struggling to solidify a plan for the offensive line while Saturday is gone. It was originally thought rookie Steve Justice would step into the starting role, but reports from Indy suggest the team is going to give Jamey Richard, another rookie, an equal shot to earn snaps. Veteran Charlie Johnson is also being considered, but it all suggests a move to put guard Ryan Lilja, who has served as a center in the past, is unlikely. None of the options listed are optimal, either forcing an inexperienced rookie into the lineup or asking a guard to move and leave questionable commodities to fill his shoes. We will see what the Colts do, but it seems they are likely to experiment throughout the early weeks of the regular season.
