Jason Campbell is still the Redskins' starting quarterback,
News: Jason Campbell is still the Redskins' starting quarterback, having survived the second of two attempts by the team's brain trust to acquire someone else to take his place. He was having dinner Thursday night when he first learned that the front office was seriously interested in working a deal to select USC quarterback Mark Sanchez in the first round of the NFL draft. Just three weeks earlier, the Redskins tried to trade for Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler. When the deal fell through, there was a clear-the-air meeting between Campbell, owner Dan Snyder, front office chief Vinny Cerrato and coach Jim Zorn. "It's an awkward situation," Campbell answered, "just because after the Cutler deal, we did sit down and talk - and then the Sanchez talk came up. ... One thing I was kind of upset about is it makes you feel like you're a bad quarterback, someone that's not wanted or something. But at the same time it makes you a stronger person. It makes you a stronger quarterback, and through all of this it's going to help my process." [...]

HC Zorn Won't Commit Fully To QB Campbell
Redskins HC Jim Zorn said that they are planning as if QB Jason Campbell will be the starting when the 2009 season begins, but he won't go so far as to say so with assurance. With Jason, we are going full speed," Zorn said. "He is every bit being handled as though he's our starting quarterback, both through word and deed. With the draft, part of knowing who's out there and what's available, we've got to get to know these players a little bit. And if there's any opportunities to better our football team, we want to talk to those guys, too. Nothing is etched in stone."

Campbell in trade talks
According to the Washington Post, Jason Campbell was reportedly offered to a team that remains nameless for a second round pick on Wednesday.
Our View: The Redskins clearly don't want to move forward with Campbell as their quarterback. They failed to offer him a long tern contract and now they're dangling him as bait across the league. The deal didn't go through most likely because it was hinged on the Skins landing Jay Cutler. But don't expect Campbell to stay put much longer.
