The Carolina Panthers and quarterback Jake Delhomme have not come close to reaching an agreement on a contract extension, according to CarolinaGrowl.com.
Our View: The Panthers would like to clear up salary cap space, and Delhomme is due to count $11 million against the cap this season. Which is an awful lot for a guy who had a TD/INT ratio of 15-12 last season and a completion percentage under 60 percent. Not to mention those six turnovers against the Arizona Cardinals in the playoffs.

Rick Smith, the agent for Panthers QB Jake Delhomme, said the two sides have not been discussing a possible contract extension as has been previously reported. When asked if contract talks are still in the preliminary stages, Smith said, "We're not at any stage yet." Delhomme is in the final year of a five-year contract and will count more than $11 million under the salary cap, $5.75 million of which is guaranteed based on prorated signing bonuses. Delhomme's base salary is $5.325 million this season.
