Our View: That's because Byrd was playing at far less than 100 percent with an injured groin. Once he gets back to full health, he will likely continue his rapid ascension toward becoming an elite NFL defensive back.

News: Rookie safety Jairus Byrd aggravated a groin injury, and traveled to Philadelphia to see a specialist. Coach Dick Jauron said the trip had already been planned as a checkup to determine how the player has healed after having surgery to repair a sports hernia last summer. Before leaving the game against Houston late in the fourth quarter, Byrd had two interceptions to become the first NFL player since San Francisco's Dave Baker in 1960 to have at least two in three straight games. Byrd also extended his interception streak to four games to match a team record held by seven players. He has seven interceptions to lead the NFL as of Monday night. [...]

Rising rookie Jairus Byrd was forced from the Bills game late in the fourth quarter on Sunday with a groin injury, according to the Buffalo News.

Our View: Before getting injured on Sunday, Byrd's two interceptions made him just the third player in NFL history to post three straight multiple interception games. He currently leads the NFL with seven. His status should be updated in the next day or two, but he doesn't seem likely to miss the Bills' next game, which comes in Week 10 after a bye this week.

Bills rookie FS Jairus Byrd (questionable, groin) will take part in warmups today and is hopeful to play when the Bills take on the Jags. Byrd was limited in practice all week. He leads the league with eight interceptions and has recorded a pick in five straight games. The team signed Cary Harris off their practice squad on Friday, and special teamer Todd Johnson would likely draw the start if Byrd can't go.
