Russell's job safe for now
According to the Contra Costa Times, Raiders' coach Tom Cable has not discussed replacing starting quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Russel has struggled mightily this season, and was just 12-21 for 61 yards in Sunday's loss to the Broncos.
Our View: Russell has been just awful this season, and he managed to get sacked more times (3) than he had passing yards (1) in the second half yesterday. He may be a former number-one overall pick, but at some point the Raiders need to realize that he is not an NFL caliber quarterback right now.
Raiders | Russell to remain starting quarterback
Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable said he did not consider pulling QB JaMarcus Russell during the team’s Week 3 game and would not speculate about the possibility of replacing him in the future if he continues to struggle. "I just feel like we have to keep moving forward, trying to figure out what is going to help him be at his best," Cable said.

Raiders' Russell faces huge game vs. Denver
If accuracy is the No. 1 measure of a quarterback's effectiveness as a passer -- and some very bright NFL minds believe it is -- then the worst quarterback in the NFL right now is Oakland's JaMarcus Russell. Through two games, he's...
Tollner: JaMarcus is regressing

Impacts: The Raiders' defense carried the team to its first victory while Russell and the rest of the offense totaled 166 yards. Russell, drafted first overall out of LSU in 2007 to be Oakland's quarterback of the future, has completed an NFL-low 35.2 percent of his passes through the first two games this season. He has a 51.8 completion percentage, 16 TDs and 14 interceptions in 21 career games.
Bulger injures back
Marc Bulger is dealing with a sore back, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Our View: His back was made sore by a hit he took late in the third quarter on Sunday. As if you needed any more reason to drop Bulger, this is it. Truly, if there are any alternatives in your league that are not JaMarcus Russell, make the move.
NFL: Russell Ineffective...Again

Russell completed only 12 of his 30 pass attempts for 208 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions as the Raiders lost to the Chargers 24-20 in their season opener Monday night.
Impacts: It was an inauspicious opener for Russell, who was near the bottom of the league with a completion percentage of 53.8 last season. The No. 1 overall pick ion the 2007 draft could have a hard time bouncing back next week, too. He's 16 for 45 (35.6 percent) for 187 yards and no touchdowns in two career starts against the Chiefs, who host the Raiders in Week 2.

Zach Miller has big night in loss
Zach Miller caught a game-high six passes for 96 receiving yards in Monday night's 24-20 loss to the rival Chargers at the Oakland Coliseum.
Our View: The rising star was quarterback JaMarcus Russell's favorite target, and is off to a great start in 2009 after leading the Raiders with 56 receptions last season.
JaMarcus Russell completed only 12-of-30 passes for 208 yards,
JaMarcus Russell completed only 12-of-30 passes for 208 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Monday night's loss to the Chargers. Some of these incompletions were the result of drops and the second pick was on a game-ending Hail Mary, but Russell was still very inaccurate. [...]

Russell inconsistent in home opener
JaMarcus Russell was inconsistent in Monday night's 24-20 loss to the rival Chargers at the Oakland Coliseum, as he only completed 12-of-30 passes for 208 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. His touchdown pass hit rookie Louis Murphy for 57 yards to put the Raiders on top with under five minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Our View: Russell showed improvement tonight as he entered his third pro season, but is still making poor decisions - evidenced by his two costly turnovers in the close loss. The Raiders head to Kansas City for Week 2, which looks to be an easier match-up after being lit up by Joe Flacco and the Ravens in their season opener.

Raiders need Russell to return them to glory
The days of babying JaMarcus Russell on his journey from No. 1 overall pick to NFL franchise quarterback have ended for the Oakland Raiders.
Raiders release Garcia
Jeff Garcia has been released by the Raiders, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Our View: At the start of camp there were whispers that Garcia could push JaMarcus Russell for the starting gig at quarterback, so this is very surprising that he did not even make the team as a reserve. There are bound to be injuries at quarterback around the league this season, so Garcia should not be out of work for too long.
