Choice fails to receive a single carry
Despite owner Jerry Jones' statement that Tashard Choice would handle a big part of the load in Dallas' backfield, Choice failed to log a single carry and had one catch for 23 yards against Atlanta on Sunday.
Our View: Another reason not to ever listen to a single thing Jerry Jones says. Choice is a very effective player but it looks like he'll have a very tough time mustering any fantasy relevance as long as Marion Barber and Felix Jones are healthy.

Our View: It sounds as if Jones is finally back to full speed, but it will be interesting to see how the team uses him this week. Tashard Choice and Marion Barber are both expected to play as well, so Jones is not likely to be a great fantasy option this week.

Our View: But now he has a broken thumb. Supposedly, it will not affect his ball-carrying. If and when Barber can ever get fully healthy, he could turn into one of the elite backs in the league. For now, don't un-bunch him from Felix Jones and Tashard Choice, however.

Our View: Jones' knee injury has kept him out for an extended period of time, but he appears to be healthy enough to return to the field this Sunday. He will handle kickoff returns, but likely won't get many carries behind Marion Barber and Tashard Choice. Now simply a change of pace back, he has significantly less fantasy value than he did at the beginning of the season.

New Role Likely To Come At Expense Of Barber, Felix Jones
Running back Marion Barber will continue to start for the Dallas Cowboys, but backup Tashard Choice will get more carries, owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday on his weekly radio show.Barber suffered a thigh injury against the New York Giants on Sept. 20, and he's still not fully recovered heading into Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. "I can tell you Barber is going to be in better shape than he was last week or two weeks ago," Jones said. "But Tashard has certainly earned and is going to get a big part of the load."Choice started three games last season while Barber was injured and rushed for 234 yards and one touchdown on 53 attempts.Choice was supposed to be the Cowboys' third-down back this season, but he's moved up the depth chart after injuries to Barber and Felix Jones (knee). FF Today's Take: Reports late last week suggested Barber would be affected by his injury for the remainder of the season, so Choice should be a good flex player, at the very least, for the rest of 2009. Given Barber's running style, Choice could very well have feature-back value again this season. It should be noted that Jones participated in practice Monday and had no issues. His status for Sunday's game against Atlanta hasn't been determined, though he expects to play.

Our View: Running backs coach Skip Peete can tell that Barber is still laboring and the injury has cost him some of his explosiveness. He was expected to be 100 percent after this week's bye, but apparently that theory is out the window and the injury could limit him for quite some time. Tashard Choice and Felix Jones could have increased roles because of this recent development.

NFL reporter Adam Caplan is reporting on Twitter that the Cowboys have signed Chauncey Washington to their practice squad. Washington was promoted to the active roster for last week's game.
Our View: Washington isn't much of a threat for carries this season in the Dallas backfield unless two or three of the backs in front of him get hurt, but he can work on his game with the practice squad throughout the season. Felix Jones and Marion Brber aren't exactly the most durable backs, so don't be shocked if Washington sees more time on the active roster this season.

Our View: Barber says he feels good, and that the quad is getting better. FF Today's Take: The NFL's top rushing attack should get a stiff test from the league's seventh-best rush defense in the Broncos. The rest likely did Barber some good, but it wouldn't be a good idea to drop Tashard Choice anytime soon. Barber's physical style opens him up to injury while Felix Jones just can't seem to stay healthy and isn't expected back until after the Cowboys' Week 6 bye. Expect Barber to return to his role while Choice grabs most of Jones' touches in his absence.

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Cowboys' running back Marion Barber was limited in practice on Wednesday. Barber participated more than he did a week ago, and the team is optimistic that he will be able to play this weekend.
Our View: Barber practiced last week but still didn't play in the game, but we fully expect him to be ready this week. We will monitor his progression over the next few days, but with Felix Jones out the Cowboys desperately need Barber on the field.
