As we get ready to wrap up the preseason, a few programming notes.
The quarterbacks are going to be next on our list of NFC South position rankings. Usually, quarterbacks go last, but I’m going to switch things up and save the running backs for last. That’s simply because the running backs are more interesting. We already know Drew Brees is the best quarterback in the NFC South.
I’ve been posting the position rankings early each morning, but the quarterback rankings will come a little bit later Friday because I want to review all four team’s preseason finales. I know what order I’m using on the four starting quarterbacks, but want to take one last look at the backups before completing my final list.
Saints release Canfield
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Saints have released quarterback Sean Canfield.
Our View: With New Orleans being happy with both Patrick Ramsey and Chase Daniel behind Drew Brees, Canfield never realy had a chance to make the team. He'll spend 2010 on someone's practice squad before getting another chance to latch on as a number three in 2011.
Saints make roster moves
The New Orleans Saints just announced a couple of moves they made to get their roster down to the required 75 players.
No big surprises. The Saints waived quarterback Sean Canfield and wide receiver Andy Tanner. Canfield was a seventh-round draft pick this year and it remains a possibility he could return to the practice squad next week.
But Canfield never came close to getting into the race for the right to be Drew Brees’ backup. The Saints signed veteran Patrick Ramsey and Chase Daniel, who was with the team part of last year, has emerged and been battling Ramsey for the No. 2 spot.
