Robinson solidifies role as starter
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Rams' wide receiver Laurent Robinson has solidified his position as the team's number two receiver with his play during the preseason. It looks as if he will start opposite Donnie Avery in Week 1 for St. Louis.
Our View: Going into the preseason, Robinson was third on the depth chart behind Avery and Keenan Burton, but he has easily outplayed Burton and earned the starting job. He may benefit from the extra attention that will be paid to Avery and running back Steven Jackson, but he should only be viewed as a fantasy option in deeper leagues as a backup.
Avery could play Thursday
News: The time frame for Rams WR Donnie Avery to return from a broken bone in his foot has been anywhere from Week 1 to Week 3 of the regular season, but coach Steve Spagnuolo on Sunday wouldn't rule out the possibility of the team's No. 1 target getting limited time Thursday against Kansas City. "I don't know if there is going to be a final picture of it," Spagnuolo said. "It might be something we could do, but it is based on how he feels. He feels really good right now, and I talked about it before he would have gone two weeks ago if he could have. He got out there and got some reps today and then we'll see where we are at for Thursday night." [...]

Avery kept out for precautionary reasons
Donnie Avery dressed and took part in pregame warm-ups for the Rams on Thursday, but he did not see any action in the game, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Avery has been sidelined with a stress fracture in his foot.
Our View: Avery probably could have played last night, but the Rams didn't feel the need to risk it in a preseason game. He has come back from the stress fracture much sooner than anyone thought he could, and it looks like he will be fine for the start of the season.
Burton tweaks ankle in preseason game
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Rams' wide receiver Keenan Burton tweaked his ankle is the team's preseason game on Thursday. Burton made one catch for eight yards before leaving with the injury.
Our View: This doesn't look like anything serious for Burton, but what is serious is that he has been outplayed by Laurent Robinson in every preseason game thus far. Burton was expected to start opposite Donnie Avery, but he will now have to hold off Robinson for the job. Don't expect either player to be much of a fantasy threat this season.

Donnie Avery (stress fracture) dressed and took part in pregame warmups Thursday night, but didn't play. Just a precaution. Avery is back practicing and almost certainly would have played if it was a regular season game. [...]

Avery returns to practice
According to NFL.com, Rams' wide receiver Donnie Avery returned to practice on Tuesday. Avery missed three weeks with a stress fracture in his foot.
Our View: Avery was expected to miss up to two regular season games, but now it looks like he will be 100 percent for Week 1. Fantasy owners can rest easy, as Avery will still be the top fantasy option from the Rams receiving corps this season.

Impacts: Chosen in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2008 draft, Avery burst on the scene last year after being bothered early by a hip injury. His speed forced defenses to account for him, and he had 53 catches for 674 yards and three touchdowns. His biggest catch was a 69-yard touchdown reception against New England.

Rams | Avery injury update
CBSSports.com reports St. Louis Rams WR Donnie Avery (foot) was making cuts, catching passes and going through all individual drills without a limp during practice Monday, Aug. 24. Although the team has not set a timetable on his return, it appears likely Avery will be ready for Week 1.
Avery sprinting at full speed
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Rams' wide receiver Donnie Avery is sprinting at full speed. Avery has been sidelined since August 7 with a broken foot.
Our View: We knew Avery was ahead of schedule, but sprinting at full speed this soon is even better than we thought. He wants to play right now, but the team will be very cautious with him during the preseason. It looks very possible that he could be ready for Week 1, which would be a huge boost for the Rams' offense and Avery's fantasy value. We will keep you updated.

Avery making progress
News: Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said Sunday that WR Donnie Avery, who is out with a stress fracture in his foot and could miss four to six weeks, is doing well in his recovery. "I know today he ran pretty good," Spagnuolo said. "When I looked over and (team strength coach) Rock Gullickson was putting him through his conditioning, if he had his way he'd be going right now, but we're taking that one a little slow." [...]
Robinson racks up 65 yards
Laurent Robinson caught five passes for 65 yards in Friday's preseason game against the Falcons.
Our View: Keenan Burton, his direct competition, caught just two balls for 12 yards. Robinson has shined in both preseason games so far and looks like he will hold the Rams number one wide receiver gig until Donnie Avery returns from injury.
NFL: Avery Ahead of Schedule
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Rams wide receiver Donnie Avery, who was expected to miss at least a month after breaking a bone in his left foot in the team's August 7th scrimmage, is no longer wearing an orthopedic boot and is lobbying for an earlier return.
Avery way ahead of schedule
Donnie Avery is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a broken foot, and could return earlier than his designated 4-to-6 week recover period, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Our View: He's lost the orthopedic boot he was wearing on the foot, and is reportedly lobbying to return right now (the injury occurred on August 7). That's not going to happen, but it now sounds like he could be ready for Week 1. We will keep you updated.
Bulger won't be 100 percent in Week 1
Marc Bulger will miss the remainder of the Rams preseason games with his fractured right pinkie, and will likely not be 100 percent healthy for Week 1, though he plans to play, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Our View: Just when new coach Steve Spagnuolo started giving Rams fans a reason to hope again, both Bulger and top receiver Donnie Avery go down with injuries. With Bulger battling this and learning a new system - and coming off a disastrous season - it would be irresponsible to advocate drafting him as anything other than an emergency backup.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that receiver Brooks Foster will miss 2-to-4 weeks with a sprained ankle.
Our View: Foster joins Donnie Avery and Tim Carter as Rams receivers now watching training camp from the sidelines. Keenan Burton and Laurent Robinson will practice as the starters in the trio's absence.

Rams | Carter could benefit with Avery out
Jim Thomas, of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams WR Tim Carter could benefit the most from WR Donnie Avery (foot) out of action. He may be given the first chance to be the team's No. 3 receiver, as WR Keenan Burton elevates into the starting lineup with Avery on the shelf.
Robinson practicing as starter
Laurent Robinson is listed ahead of Keenan Burton as a starter on the Rams' latest depth chart, according to their official team website.
Our View: Robinson could make an impact in St. Louis this season, namely as Burton and Donnie Avery are still learning the ropes. Robinson is worth a look as a flier if he starts this season.
Rams' Avery to miss 4-6 weeks
The St. Louis Rams will be without No. 1 wide receiver Donnie Avery for four to six weeks after the second-year player injured his foot during a scrimmage last week.
Stress fracture hobbles Avery
News: Rams WR Donnie Avery will miss four-to-six weeks with a stress fracture in his left foot. The injury could mean Avery will miss the first two regular season games. He was hurt in Friday's scrimmage and was in a walking boot as recently as Sunday. "We'll take it day by day, but it's going to be a lot of time," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said, acknowledging that the team will miss Avery's speed, but he still feels that quarterback Marc Bulger can get the job done. WR Avery Out 4-6 Weeks With Foot Injury
MRI "Showed More Than We Thought"
What orginally was believed to be a minor injury has turned into a major problem for the St. Louis Rams. Donnie Avery, the team's No. 1 wide receiver, will be out at least a month with a foot injury he suffered in Friday night's scrimmage.Avery experienced discomfort in his left foot when he woke up Saturday morning, but an X-ray showed no fracture. However, an MRI exam taken after Avery sat out Sunday morning's practice "showed more than we thought," coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "It's probably a four-to-six-week injury." Spagnuolo declined to comment further. (St. Louis Post Dispatch)
FF Today's Take: Tough break as Avery was having a good camp up to this point. The Rams are thin and inexperienced at the position with Keenan Burton, Laurent Robinson, and Ronald Curry next in line.

Avery to undergo MRI
Donnie Avery will have an MRI on his sore foot, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Our View: The move is supposedly just a precaution, but it's not a great sign whenever an MRI is taken. Hopefully for the Rams sake, who are woefully thin at receiver, it truly is minor. Stay tuned.
