The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Rams' wide receiver Laurent Robinson has solidified his position as the team's number two receiver with his play during the preseason. It looks as if he will start opposite Donnie Avery in Week 1 for St. Louis.
Our View: Going into the preseason, Robinson was third on the depth chart behind Avery and Keenan Burton, but he has easily outplayed Burton and earned the starting job. He may benefit from the extra attention that will be paid to Avery and running back Steven Jackson, but he should only be viewed as a fantasy option in deeper leagues as a backup.

Our View: Avery probably could have played last night, but the Rams didn't feel the need to risk it in a preseason game. He has come back from the stress fracture much sooner than anyone thought he could, and it looks like he will be fine for the start of the season.

Our View: This doesn't look like anything serious for Burton, but what is serious is that he has been outplayed by Laurent Robinson in every preseason game thus far. Burton was expected to start opposite Donnie Avery, but he will now have to hold off Robinson for the job. Don't expect either player to be much of a fantasy threat this season.

Impacts: Chosen in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2008 draft, Avery burst on the scene last year after being bothered early by a hip injury. His speed forced defenses to account for him, and he had 53 catches for 674 yards and three touchdowns. His biggest catch was a 69-yard touchdown reception against New England.

Our View: We knew Avery was ahead of schedule, but sprinting at full speed this soon is even better than we thought. He wants to play right now, but the team will be very cautious with him during the preseason. It looks very possible that he could be ready for Week 1, which would be a huge boost for the Rams' offense and Avery's fantasy value. We will keep you updated.
