Portis injures ankle
The Washington Times reports that Clinton Portis aggravated his ankle injury in the Redskins loss to the Eagles on Monday.
Our View: Portis rushed for just 43 yards on 14 carries, and this could go a long way toward explaining those numbers. For the 'Skins to have any chance at a non-embarrassing season, they are going to need Portis relatively healthy and ready for some bruising games.

Portis rushed for only 43 yards on 14 carries Monday in a 27-17 loss to the Eagles and at one point chucked his helmet on the sideline in frustration.
Impacts: Portis rushed for 109 yards the previous week against Kansas City, but new offensive play caller Sherm Lewis failed to get the former Pro Bowl running back untracked on Monday in a key NFC East clash. Lewis has been with the Redskins for only three weeks after being lured out of a retirement consisting of bingo-calling and serving Meals on Wheels.

Portis struggles for 43 yards
Clinton Portis struggled to get anything going on Monday as the Redskins fell to the Eagles on Monday Night Football. Portis rushed for only 43 yards on 14 carries in the loss.
Our View: Portis has been dealing with an ankle injury all week, and it could have played a factor in tonight's performance. The Skins threw the ball 43 times tonight, which also played a role in his limited performance.

Portis out again Friday
The Washington Post reports that Clinton Portis was held out of practice for the third straight day on Friday with an ankle injury, but that he is still likely to play against the Eagles on Monday night.
Our View: Portis is a famous "never practices, always plays" player, and there is no doubt that he will be suited up on Monday. He is coming off his first 100-yard rushing game of the season last week, and is a good play against the Eagles' middle-of-the-road run-defense.

Portis Dealing With Several Leg Injuries
Remains Surprisingly Optimisitic About Team's Running Game
Running back Clinton Portis sat out practice today because of leg problems. "It's really one leg," he said. "It's just my right leg. I've got plantar faciitis, an ankle, the inside of my MCL, and a calf all on my right leg. So if I can get a new lower leg, I'll be fine." Portis acknowledged he has not had much interaction with new play-caller Sherman Lewis, who came out of retirement about two weeks ago to serve as an offensive consultant. Owner Daniel Snyder promoted Lewis, 67, to call plays after stripping Jim Zorn of the responsibility following the team's latest dreary loss to a formerly winless team, which has occurred four times this season. Lewis is unfamiliar with the team's personnel and knows little about Washington's running game, but Portis expects the running game to work well. "It ain't hard, I mean, you either run gut, counter, stretch, toss, dive, or draw," Portis said. "You can call it however you want to call it, but them are the only runs in football. For him to be an offensive coordinator for as long as he has, I'm sure he knows that as well. Maybe it's the formations. I don't know why he would say that, but I don't think it's too hard to call the running game." (Washington Post)
FF Today's Take: Despite Portis' optimism, there is something about the combination of an injured, aging RB, below-average offensive line and a new play caller that should horrify fantasy owners. Portis owners should do everything in their power to unload him after he performed reasonably well against a string of weaker defenses to start the season. Five of the Redskins' next six opponents are in the top half of the league vs. the run.

Redskins | Portis not worried about running game
Jason Reid, of The Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis said he is not worried about the running game with team consultant Sherman Lewis now calling the plays. "It ain't hard, I mean, you either run gut, counter, stretch, toss, dive, or draw," Portis said. "You can call it however you want to call it, but them are the only runs in football. Portis out again
Clinton Portis (sprained ankle) was again held out of practice on Thursday, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post.
Our View: With the Redskins not playing until Monday night this week, Portis has one extra deal to heal up his creaky ankle, and almost certainly will play against the Eagles and their middle-of-the-road run defense. He carried the ball only 15 times in Week 6, but managed to reel off a season-high 109 yards (78 did come on one run, however).
Portis misses practice
Redskins.com reports that running back Clinton Portis (sprained ankle) did not practice on Wednesday, but is still on track to start Week 7 against the Eagles.
Our View: Pain in the ankles is nothing new for Portis, who has been playing with bone spurs in both his left and right ankles all season. He should be able to suck it up once again and play on Monday night, but don't expect him to get a lot more than the 15 carries he racked up in Week 6.

News: Washington RB Clinton Portis left the Week 6 game against Kansas City just before halftime with an ankle injury, the same ailment that has been bothering him for weeks. He returned one series after halftime and went on to have his best game since last year. Portis rushed 15 times for 109 yards, the first time since Nov. 23 last season that he topped 100 yards.
