Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the St. Louis Rams asked LB Chris Draft to take a deduction in his salary, but when he refused, they released him. Draft was scheduled to make $1.25 million, but the Rams wanted to reduce his base salary to $845,000.

Culberson re-signed by Rams

The St. Louis Rams have re-signed linebacker Quinton Culberson, according to the team's official website. Culberson will replace the recently released Chris Draft on the roster.

Our View: Culberson made 50 tackles for the team last season, and he is good enough to see time on the defense this season. David Vobora will be starting in place of Draft, but Culberson could fine himself playing quite a bit if Vobora can't handle the job early.

David Vobora looks to be the new starting outside linebacker for the Rams after the team released Chris Draft on Thursday, according to the Twitter page of St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Bernie Miklasz. Vobora made 15 tackles for the Rams last season as a reserve.

Our View: Vobora was Mr. Irrelevant in the 2008 draft, so he has come a long way in the last year. He has impressed new coach Steve Spagnuolo this summer, and he will get his opportunity to start full-time for the team this season. The team has players ready to take over if he can't handle the duty, but it looks like the job is his for now.

According to the Twitter page of the St. Louis Rams, the team has released linebacker Chris Draft. David Vobora is the most likely candidate to step into the starting lineup for Draft.

Our View: This move came out of nowhere. Draft is one of the most highly respected players in the business, and there has been no reasoning released just yet as to what motivated this move. Draft is a model citizen and a hardworking football player, and he should be able to find work elsewhere, if only as a backup.
