Updating a previous item, Dave Hutchinson, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets TE Chris Baker has signed an extension that will pay him $12.2 million over three years, according to the NFL Network. The deal could include $9 million guaranteed if he plays half of the team's offensive plays this season and is on the roster the fifth day of the 2009 league year in March. If Baker doesn't play 50 percent of the plays, the deal will call for Baker to make $12.2 million but it's not guaranteed. Baker is currently in the third year of a four-year, $6.6 million contract.

News: The New York Jets have signed tight end Chris Baker to a contract extension, a team spokesman confirmed Wednesday night. The deal, first reported by the NFL Network, was completed last weekend and could keep the seven-year veteran with the Jets through the 2012 season. The team wouldn't divulge contract details, but it is reportedly for another three years on Baker's current deal. Baker, in the third year of a four-year contract worth $6.6 million, had a career-high 41 catches last season. The NFL Network reported that the deal will pay Baker $12.2 million over the three new years, which could include $9 million guaranteed if he plays in half the team's offensive plays this season.
