Mike McCarthy has no interest in revisiting or rehashing the details of last year's messy divorce between the Green Bay Packers and the player who once was considered the face of the franchise, Brett Favre.
Favre will be in purple to face the Packers for the first time
Favre will be in purple to face the Packers for the first time next week. He'll also be wearing a little bit of pink. The NFL is honoring breast cancer awareness in October. Favre is one of four Vikings who will use pink equipment during Monday's game against Green Bay at the Metrodome, according to league spokesman Brian McCarthy.
Impacts: Favre will be facing his old team for the first time on Monday night. He signed with the Vikings this season. He spent 16 seasons with the Packers.

Impacts: Favre finished 24 for 47 for 301 yards and two touchdowns, the most passes he's thrown in a game since Nov. 11, 2007, when he beat the Vikings while with Green Bay by going 33 for 46 for 351 yards and three touchdowns.

The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre was 24-for-46 for 301 yards with two touchdowns and an interception Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers. It was Favre’s first 300-yard game since Nov. 22, 2007.

The end was as good as the Vikings could have imagined: Brett Favre zipped a pass to a little-used reserve wide receiver in the back of the end zone in the final seconds for a classic Favre finish.
Favre throws for 301 yards, 2 TDs
News: Brett Favre led the Vikings to an improbable win over the 49ers, leading the team on a fourth-quarter drive and hitting WR Greg Lewis on a 32-yard tiptoe catch in the end zone with the game almost over. More impressive than that is his final stat line: 301 yards on 24 of 46 passing with two touchdowns and an interception. Favre was worn out from this, further raising the question about his ability to complete a full season. For now, the Vikings will take his clutch touch. "He's been in many, many, many, many situations like that," coach Brad Childress said, "so it never hurts you to have a veteran like him going down the field." [...]

Farvre passes for 301 yards, 2 TDs
Brett Favre completed 24-of-46 passes for 301 yards with two touchdowns against one interception in the Week 3 victory over San Francisco.
Our View: The Vikings are 3-0 with Favre under center, and the 19-year veteran has thrown two touchdown passes in each of the last two games. The gunslinger is a serviceable fantasy backup, and next week should be hyped off the charts with the Packers visiting Minnesota for a Monday night showdown.

QB Sanchez On Jets' Injury Report
With Tendinitis In Knee, But Will Play
Mark Sanchez has a "little tendinitis" in his right knee, according to Rex Ryan. But Sanchez was added to the Jets' injury report Thursday because there's no such thing as a little injury to a quarterback. The Jets learned that the hard way with the Brett Favre fiasco. Sanchez practiced fully, according to the team, and will start Sunday against the Titans. Nevertheless, in the wake of the heavy fines imposed by the NFL for failing to report Favre's arm injury last season, the Jets weren't about to omit Sanchez - especially after a reporter noticed him fussing over his knee during the portion of practice open to the media. After practice, Ryan announced that his $50 million rookie was on the injury report. "Make sure he's on that list," he told reporters after practice, drawing a few laughs. "I don't mean anything by that. It's just a little thing, so we're going to put him on there." During a light passing drill at the start of practice, Sanchez kept reaching down to his knee, flexing it a few times. In between throws, he jogged lightly, making exaggerated cuts to test the knee. A trainer checked it out, rubbing the knee and placing a thin elastic band on it. This went on for several minutes. "It's not that big of a deal, but he has something," Ryan said. "I don't know how to describe it (other than) to say it's a little tendinitis. But he's fine. He fully participated and he moved around great. We're making sure we're looking after him." (The NY Daily News)
FF Today's Take: Knee injuries have been known to linger and the Jets likely hope their bye week was earlier than week 9, so that they could rest their 2-0 rookie QB. It should help that the Haynesworth-less Titans have had trouble stopping QBs this year, as their pass defense ranks last in the league with an average of 339 passing yards allowed per game thus far.
Minnesota VIkings coach Brad Childress playing the right cards with Brett Favre
Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress claims he hasn't spoken to Brett Favre in a couple of weeks. But Childress did a smart thing by saying publicly he likes what he sees of Favre's throwing motion from the quarterback's workouts in Mississippi. It was important because the statement gets word back to Favre that he's comfortable with Favre's timeable about coming back out of retirement. By making those comments, Childress might get lucky and have Favre announce his return to the game Friday as...

NFL won't move Vikes-Pack game
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that the Minnesota-Green Bay Monday night game scheduled for October 5 will take place at the Metrodome regardless of what happens to the Twins down the stretch. If the Twins and Tigers need a 163rd game to decide the division, the game was scheduled to be on the same day as the Monday night game.
Our View: The NFL has said they won't be moving the game, as it will be one of the biggest of 2009 with Brett Favre facing the Packers. The likely scenario would be to have the baseball game on Tuesday instead, since the playoffs don't start until Wednesday. No matter what, Favre vs. Green Bay will go on as scheduled.

Favre suffers bent fingernail
News: Brett Favre's streak is not in danger: He has a bent fingernail. Favre's throwing hand was clearly hurting after his last throw for Minnesota in Sunday's win over Detroit. He was hit by two defenders in the fourth quarter during a touchdown pass to Percy Harvin. Favre got up and grimaced, glancing down at his hand and shaking it a few times before heading to the sideline. He didn't return with the Vikings up 27-10. Coach Brad Childress said Monday, however, that Favre is fine. "Not a fractured thumb, or a dislocated wrist, or a season-ending" injury, Childress said, playfully needling reporters about the heightened interest in any Favre-related information. "He bent his fingernail. That hurts, too. For those of you who have fingernails, that hurts." [...]

Favre has tender fingernail
Brett Favre is suffering from a "bent" fingernail on his throwing hand, according to the Associated Press.
Our View: Somehow, it doesn't seem likely that a fingernail will stop his streak of 271 consecutive games played. However, now we know that we may hear after the season that he didn't want to play through the "injury." Whether or not he decides to bring it up, though, will depend on how many interceptions he throws in the next few weeks.

Jackson expected to be backup again
According to the St.Paul Pioneer-Press, Tarvaris Jackson is expected to be named the backup quarterback again this week. Jackson backed up Brett Favre in Week 1 and played in four snaps.
Our View: Coach Brad Childress has said that he will evaluate the backup job every week depending on what he sees ar practice, so Jackson must be looking good. Either that or Childress is sticking with Jackson as the backup because Jackson is his guy and Sage Rosenfels isn't. Either way, neither will play unless something happens to the Iron Man Brett Favre.

Our View: Maybe this story will die down a bit now. It was believed that Mangini and Tannenbaum might get hit with a little harsher penalty, but $25k is nothing to sneeze at. Maybe ol' Golden Brett should donate to the fund after his mouth sparked the whole issue.
NFL | Mangini being examined in Favre injury report situation last year
The Associated Press reports the NFL is investigating Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini's role in not having Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre on the injury report when both were a part of the New York Jets last season. Favre had a biceps injury in 2008 but was not on the injury report. Mangini could be fined if found to be involved.

Favre completed 14 of 21 passes for 110 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in his Vikings debut Sunday, helping his new team to a 34-20 win over the Browns.
Impacts: Favre appeared to be fully recovered from offseason surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon, an injury that plagued him down the stretch last season with the Jets. Favre threw nine interceptions in New York's final five games, a slide that cost his team a playoff spot and led to coach Eric Mangini's firing. While he was quietly effective in his debut, expect a more prolific performance from Favre next Sunday against the Lions, who gave up six TD passes in their opener.

Favre has been selected one of five captains for the Vikings this season.
Impacts: Favre has been with the team for less than a month, but apparently has already made enough of an impression to be elected a captain by his teammates. Favre signed with the Vikings on Aug. 18 and has been working ever since to get up to speed with his teammates on the field and earn their trust in the locker room. He addressed the team on Monday, saying he felt the need to let them know personally that he ended his second retirement for the right reasons.

Jackson named backup for Week 1
The St. Paul Pioneer-Press is reporting that Tarvaris Jackson, not Sage Rosenfels, will be the backup to Brett Favre this weekend. Coach Brad Childress said that the backup could change from week to week.

The Jets will likely face a fine or other punishment from the league for their actions.
Our View: Favre came out and said this in an interview yesterday, and it is good to see the team take responsibility for their actions. They will likely get a slap on the wrist for not putting him on the injury report, and then this will all be over.

Vikings | Favre addresses team Monday
Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre addressed the team Monday, Sept. 7, to explain why he wanted to return to the NFL and giving his thoughts on the team’s prospects for 2009. Favre said, “All of the stuff that went on prior to training camp and up until I signed I just wanted to address. I didn't feel like I needed to, but I wanted the guys to know where I stood and what I was here for and sort of the timeline of the way things happened.”
Favre, Vick will have fantasy impact
It's safe to assume nobody outside Minnesota is starting Brett Favre on their fantasy football team. And unless Michael Vick's relatives have a league that starts when Vick's suspension ends in Week 3, it's doubtful many people even have him on a roster.

Remember Brett Favre's first answer to Vikings coach Brad Childress? My body isn't up for this, he said. Six weeks later, Minnesota's new quarterback wants to remind the football world just how old he is.
Favre "May Not" Be Able To Play All 16
Vikings' QB Willing To Sit
Brett Favre insists he won't let his durability streak hurt the Vikings. The quarterback will make his 270th consecutive start when Minnesota plays at Cleveland on Sunday. That will match what the NFL considers the longest streak in history, set by former Vikings defensive lineman Jim Marshall from 1961 to 1979.Favre said Wednesday he "absolutely" would sit out this season if he's not healthy enough to suit up as Minnesota's quarterback. The 39-year-old also said he "may not" be able to play in all 16 regular-season games. Favre said he was willing to sit last year with the New York Jets and that he shared his concerns at the time with his coaches. His poor performance in December was due in part to his injured right arm. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Despite still being considered a starting quarterback, one glance at Favre's stats shows that he's been on the decline for years. The former fantasy stud's age plus the fact that he's coming off surgery to repair his passing shoulder could spell an end to his consecutive games' streak at some point this season.
Favre may not play all 16
According to the Associated Press, Brett Favre has admitted that he may not be able to play in all 16 games this season.
Our View: The Iron Man's streak may come to an end. In all likelihood, it probably will. Favre is almost 40, has a torn rotator cuff and injured his ribs this preseason. He apparently was willing to sit out last year while with the Jets, but never did. Expect him to follow through on it this season. He will start his 270th consecutive game on Sunday, but count on seeing Sage Rosenfels make a start or two.

Vikings gamble on Favre upgrade (Reuters)
Reuters - The Minnesota Vikings have taken a huge gamble in signing veteran quarterback Brett Favre who has come out of retirement for the third time.
Favre admits he's not the same
News: Even though he will turn 40 in October, Brett Favre is an upgrade at quarterback for the Vikings even if he's not the same passer he was five years ago. He has a torn rotator cuff and is coming off surgery to alleviate pain from a torn biceps, so Favre knows he will need all the help he can get to make it through his 19th season in the NFL. And he'll have plenty of it with Adrian Peterson running the ball and a very sound defense protecting leads and creating turnovers. "I would be the first to admit, I don't think I am capable to make some of the plays I used to make," Favre said. "My mind might tell me I can, but I don't know physically if I can do that. Understanding my limitations, how it pertains to what we are trying to do is all a part of this process. All I want to do is win; that is all I came back for. There is nothing like it." [...]

Police in suburban New Orleans say they arrested Young following a traffic stop this week. Harahan police chief Peter Dale said officers initially pulled Young over for speeding and only intended to give him a ticket, but had to arrest him because their records turned up another unresolved violation in Jefferson Parish.

Vikings | Favre improving, still has work to do
The Associated Press reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said QB Brett Favre’s play was much improved during the team’s preseason game Monday, Aug. 31, however Favre still has work to do. "He did some really good things as far as putting the ball where it needed to be," Childress said. "He will be the first to tell you that he missed a few reads. He made a couple of nice plays with his feet and he had enough of the pocket presence to move around when he had to and still get the football where it needed to be."
